  1. I'm telling you guys...watch out for Eric Fryer....he is absolutely killing the ball! This was a really strange game and aftermath at the ballyard here. Latest word from here is Scott Houin is going up to Brevard which seemed strange. As host family working with Rob Bryson, I now have one less Brewer to follow on this board. This whole thing just seems really strange and unfinished at this point in my mind. Can't wait to see how all the parts fit together.
  2. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/9d215e927febc5e96dcd68961b3dc7a434a5686.jpg Nic Ungs before 1st game in Carolina
  3. Fryer is just punishing the baseball right now. Everything he hits, he hits hard and it's easy to get excited when he comes to the plate with guys on base right now!
  4. Well, just to add the perspective of a guy from Charleston, I think this sucks! Charleston is a great place to watch baseball, and the players seem thrilled to be here. I think when you are talking young 19 -22 year old guys, Charleston is a good place for their development both on and off the field. I think the Brewers will be sorry and I don't see much sense in it.....of course there was the Linestink trade, and we'll hold our judgement on other Brew Crew decisions until after the CC trade is announced!
  5. Just heard this one on XM radio that the Brewers offer for Sabathia is Matt LaPorta and Alcides Escobar! Anyone else hear this or something like it? After the Inman/Thatcher/Garrison for Linestink deal of last year I sure hope they don't do this! Has Gamel made LaPorta expendable?
  6. Merklinger and Bryson combine for 9 innings of 5 hit 1 walk baseball with Merklinger giving giving up 1 earned run and Bryson none. The two combined for 13 strikeouts with Bryson hitting 91 on the stadium gun twice, which is typically 4-5 MPH slow! Not much offense for the Power tonite, but they took out the second place Suns to extend their 2nd half lead! Power pitching is really starting to come along on all ends!
  7. For what it's worth guys, if you order photos off the shutterfly site, there is no $ in there for me. I get to know these guys, and as I am CPA and not a photographer, I don't want any of them to think I'm turning a dime off their images. These are there to give you guys some of the views that I get chasing my love of the game. Please don't purchase my prints for resale...just for your own consumption!
  8. Gindl is really starting to heat it up....hitting the ball hard, even when he gets out....keep an eye on him! Edit: thanks for the link, John. I replaced it below as I didn't see your post, first, thanks.
  9. I saw Brantley in Carolina yesterday...he was in uni but walking pretty gingerly.
  10. I was actually at the Huntsville game, and it was a really strange nite. The entire team appeared a little out of sync. It was 96 degrees and very humid. Carolina pitchers were reaching 97 98 on the gun. My first view of our most dominant minor league team was just...out of sync. The fact that these guys were even in this game is a testament to how good they are. I will be posting a photo album, except my camera card was "out of sync" and I can't get the photos to my computer yet....but I will....just an odd nite all the way around!!
  11. Bryson looked strong tonite hitting 95 a couple times in his second inning. Only runner to score was a guy that he hit who went 1st to 3rd on a poor throw from the catcher on a steal attempt. He just needs some innings...hasn't been used much lately! Gindl with another multi hit nite...looks like he's getting back to form!
  12. Anyone listening to WV? They literally own Greensboro...it's 10-0 in the fifth inning! Gindl with a HR! This is fun! Anundsen 3 hits 0 walks and 3k's through 4, only 47 pitches through 4....more good stuff on the road! I think the Power is already 7-1 vs. Greensboro this year. Add two more three up three down innings for Anundsen...10-0 end of six! Make that 0 runs, 4 hits on 94 pitches through 8! 6 Power hits with multi hit game tonite (Haydel, Farris, Wheeler, Gindl, Snidjers and Cline)
  13. Great article about a great guy. I'm a guy that grew up listening to Marty and Joe, and for some strange reason, I have really enjoyed listening to Bull call the road games for the Power. I am as "relaxed and interested" listening as I was as a kid with Marty an Joe. It's hard for me to explain, but when you listen to a guy call a game, you have three degrees, love em, hate em or tolerate em....I rarely keep the radio on long for the last two. Keep up the good work Bull, I'd love to see you "move up", but stay in the Brewers Org so I can hear you call my guys! Jacob Messer is quickly becoming my favorite local writer also! Kudos for your work with the Power this year. I have often thought over the last 2 years, that you are the only local tv/news guy that has any business even talking about the Power! Thanks to both you guys!
  14. I can get the individual players splits off milb.com, but I am looking for the compiled stats of the total team. Unless I am doing something wrong, I can't get them off that link. Thanks and any help is appreciated!
  15. I have always had a theory that the mound at Appalachian Power Park looks too flat. I have been following the pitchers pretty closely this year as we do host family duty for Rob Bryson, and I notice he always seems to pitch better on the road (ERA, AVG, GO/AO) So I started looking at the pitchers that have significant innings and found that individually, the following pitchers have better away stats than home stats (Rivas, Etheridge, Ramlow, Bryson, Seidel, Mercedes). Does anyon know if there is a team pitching home/road split available somewhere. I'd like to see if this trend carried through in previous years .....just something I've been curious about.
  16. Very interesting "changes" guys! I'm not sure what to think about it all just yet,but I think much of the commentary is really right on the money this time. Most of the movements comes from the who's hot necessity and after reading much less than glowing reports on the Brewers minor league system in different places, I think we have a lot of strong up and comers to go along with the six newbies next time!! Seems that from a prospect and developmental standpoint, the minor league system looks pretty good to me! Of course I've had great prospects that we've done host family duty in the last 2 years (Zach Braddock, Bobby Bramhall, Rob Bryson, Caleb Gindl) so I'm kinda prejudice! I'm also glad that it seems many of the brewerfan faithful have found a little forgiveness in their hearts for my man Angel! It is well deserved!!
  17. Bryson closes out with 2 2/3 fine innings throwing gasolina! Goose eggs across the board! Power takes another one run game....could these guys be turning it around?!
  18. WV can't win right now at all....pitching is getting better but they can't catch a break, or string anything together. Case in point today in a 4-3 loss they squander leadoff doubles in the 6th and 8th by Caleb Gindl and fail to score. In the last ten games Haydel hitting .184, Wheeler .189, Ferris .214 and Brewer .161...on the positive side, Gindl is hitting .353 over his last ten with 5 doubles 4 walks, but only 2 runs scored...Glad to see Caleb getting it going!
  19. Power wins....come from behind 2-1 victory! Pitching is doing their job lately, now if the offense comes around before the second half!!!! Rivas gives up a run on 3 hits 3BB and 4 k's in 5. Ramlow pitches the 9th for his 3rd save.
  20. Think about the potential future...You've got Jeffress at 98-99, Braddock that records double digit K's but whose fastball tops out much slower and from the lefthand side of the plate. Bryson who can touch the mid 90's, and Anundsen with his sinker and a 3.4 GO/AO ratio...and all of them closed out with Aguilar and his ability to hit the high 90's and even touch triple digits! Now for the fun part...ages Jeffress 20, Braddock 20, Bryson 20, Anundsen 19, Aguilar 23....Let's not trade these guys away for the likes of Scott Linebrink!!! Please!
  21. If Omar has corrected some of the control issues that he had here in Charleston last year, you better watch out! Can't comment on Pena as I've never seen him pitch, but Aguilar can reach 100 and he is 23 so it's probably time to see what he can do!
  22. Still gotta remember....he's behind the rest in competitive innings...still working off the "ring rust"...I think he's doing fantastic! Wait till the walks go down...can you say dominant again!? Without 2 2 out walks in the 4th...no runs...looks good to me! Finished the 5th with 2 k's...anyone have any idea on pitch count?
  23. WV Power rained out again tonite! Not much of a home stand between the rain and the Captains! Here's looking forward to a good road trip!
  24. I've watched Angel play, he is an extremely hard working , young (doesn't turn 22 until next month) guy with a cannon of an arm. I think he will be just fine defensively given time. I would expect the PT time at catcher to pick up as well as the season progresses....just my 2 cents.
  25. I think the answer to that question is that Angel seemed to suffer some image damage, especially to many of you here on the board over his suspension. He has picked up this year, pretty much where he left off last year. I still contend that the Brewers view Angel as the catcher of the near future, and thus the signing of Kendall for this year. Kendall has been a pleasant surprise, as an understatement, but I think Angel progressing as he is at AA, is also a surprise to many. Let's hope that Angel has the opportunity to learn how to handle pitchers from someone like Kendall. I say Angel is a late year injury call-up if that happens this year, otherwise 2009 should be his year! I think he will begin to get some love soon, especially if the BB's and the power numbers go up!
