    The way I look at it is that we won 90 games. Third best record in the NL, four teams make the playoffs. We did. Why not acknowledge that?

    New blog up by Haudricourt. Says the Brewers will listen to offers for Fielder for and said they would for "some time." They would move him for a "substantial package." The reasons he gives are. 1. Big pay raise in arbitration. Scott Boras as his agent. Already turned down a 5 year $60 million offer from the Brewers. 2. Regression in the field worrying club officials. 3. His noticeable weight gain from 2007. Another concern for club officials. There's a link to a New York Post story in the blog. I'm guessing that's what the ESPN insider story is about.

    One of these years Hardy just isn't going to have the three-week streak that makes his season statistically. Except that each of the last two years he's had three good months statistically. Also, you don't deal Fielder without attempting to sign him long term. We already attempted that and he declined our offer.

    People that were predicting 85-90 wins were predicting we would get there with a Sheets/Gallardo front of the rotation. Now we're going to have a Gallardo rotation. How many wins would it cost us going from Sheets to McClung or Villanueva for a year?

    And even when you consider the terrible offensive year by Taveras, I'm sure the Rockies would rather pay him to suck than pay Pierre to suck since Taveras is going to cost much less.

    I don't think it means much. If I was Randolph I would only take a managers job. If I don't get a managers job then I still get paid $2 million. No reason to be a third base coach, bench coach or anything like that.

    I like it. The only thing I would change is making the headlines a different color than light blue. Not easy to read with the white background.

    Looks like the only AFL all-star is Omar Aguilar. Aguilar blew the save in the 9th for the National Rising Stars, but picked up the win after Drew Stubbs (Reds) drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 9th. Box Score

    Bogut shouldn't have the offense run through him. He has one post move, can't make free throws, can't step out and hit a jumper and is always late to either make a move towards the basket or pass out of a double team.

    Joe Alexander can't even play the 3 in the NBA. That guy is terrible, hated that pick. I also fail to see how Bogut is going to have a much larger role on offense. Yeah, we traded Mo, but this year's projected starters excluding Bogut (Ridnour, Redd, Jefferson and Villanueva) averaged 50.2 shots per game last year. Our starters from last year excluding Bogut (Mo, Redd, Mason and Yi) averaged 47.2 shots. So it's not like getting rid of Mo and adding Ridnour is going to bring shots to Bogut. And let's be honest. If a couple of those guys aren't getting shots (Redd and Villanueva) then they might as well not even play because they're not going to bring much more to the table. I predicted 32-50. Our bench is absolutely terrible. Our "Big 3" of Redd, Jefferson and Bogut is one of the worst in the league and there's absolutely no scoring outside of Redd, Bogut, Villanueva and Jefferson.

    His agent said he would be willing to go to other cities (outside the five he listed) if he could get some additional compensation (having his option exercised, making the buyout more money etc.)

    The Braves could keep Jurrjens and offer Yunel Escobar, Tommy Hanson, Jordan Schafer and Jason Heyward. They probably won't offer that much, but they could make an offer that would be very tough to beat.

    I don't know if they do clay roofs, but I was very impressed with Oconomowoc Roofing. I'd give them a shot.

    Why would we waste Escobar's service time by using him as a backup?

    That's a joke. I'm sorry, but when one team can boast a $200 million payroll and they are pretty much the only team that can do it, then there's a competitive balance problem. Yeah, they didn't make the playoffs this year, but it's quite simple. Is it easier to make the playoffs with a $200 million payroll than it is with a $120 million payroll? Is it easier to make the playoffs with a $120 million payroll than it is with a $75 million payroll? You bet. Baseball has a long, long way to go before it's competitively balanced.

    The announcement will probably come after the World Series and it's probably down to Brenly and Macha. Showalter and Valentine don't seem to be the Brewers "style." He hasn't heard of much from guys out of the majors for a long time (specifically mentions Davey Johnson.) Link
