  1. To be fair, Yost admitting he made a mistake by bringing in Mota might be detrimental to Guillermo's psyche as a late inning guy. No one really wins in that scenario except the Yost bashers.
  2. I'm not advocating for Weaver, just pondering what the Brewers may do with him. I agree with you guys, I don't think Weaver has done enough to warrant moving up especially since McClung has at least shown some productivity in a small sample. My worry though is that DM would be worried about depth in case of injuries and may call Weaver up just to have someone else around. DeFelice would be an option but we know DM propensity toward veterans. Would Weaver be willing to push the cutoff date back again? My guess is another team would give him a shot in the minors but not likely anyone would sign him to be on the major league roster.
  3. Jeff Weaver had a decent outing yesterday and will have one more start at AAA before his June 15 cutoff date when he will likely either be called up or released. The question is has McClung done enough to keep his spot in the rotation for the time being or do the Brewers call up Weaver to keep him and move McClung back to the pen? Obviously McClung has had a few good starts, but it wouldn't surprise me if DM gives Weaver a shot in order to keep him as an option.
  4. Villy has been great since moving to the pen, I'm not sure we need to worry about his confidence in throwing another inning. He himself said he was expecting to go back out for the 8th. And if he lets a couple of guys on, that's when you can go to Mota. At that point, it isn't Ned's fault, but he made an unnecessary move with very poor reasoning. I have been a staunch defender of Ned's when I feel he is unfairly blamed for poor team performance, but I have to say that Ned pressed the wrong button last night.
  5. Wow, Yost. Save situation? Are you kidding me? And he actually proclaims that if the Brewers had scored one more run Villy would've returned for the next inning. I didn't know 3 run leads were so much more difficult to hold than 4 run leads OR that inferior pitchers were more acclimated to holding said 3 run leads as opposed to 4 run leads. This is one of those .5 games you can put on Yost.
  6. Some commentators seem to think that baseball (maybe just casual) fans believe HRs are the only way a run can be scored and compensate for that belief, trying to tell us all that, indeed, runs can be scored via single, two sacrifice bunts and another single.
  7. Those numbers would be OPS, I assume.
  8. For those asking why Weeks and Hardy aren't getting platooned: How many bench players do you want us to carry? And who is going to put up better numbers v. RHP than Weeks and Hardy? This isn't about what's fair, it's about what helps the Brewers win more games. For those worried about the difference between Dillon and Hall v. LHP: If Hall could be part of a trade package that netted us a good starting pitcher (#2 or #3), wouldn't that be worth the (debatable) small dropoff in the 100-150 PAs left on the year against LHP for the 3B position? I think Dillon could even be a better overall hitter than Hall v. LHP when factoring in OBP. And isn't better OBP what this team needs? People shouldn't be worried about Dillon's bat just because he hasn't gotten enough PAs in the majors: as TLB pointed out, his splits v. LHP in the majors have actually been very good.
  9. It's actually been more like KK(HR)(BB)(BB)KK(HR)(BB)K(HR) recently which is, needless to say, really good.
  10. backupL: I guess my post was more in response to razzzor's post (#82) but mostly was just my general feeling about our chances at Wild Card v. Division.
  11. The Cards are only 2.5 behind the Cubs and stand as the Wild Card leaders at this point so I think its a bit early to say that the Wild Card is much more reachable than the division. I don't foresee St. Louis hanging around all season, but I think the Phillies and Mets could very easily end up with records right around where the Cubs will end up.
  12. 15-11 for the Crew 12-15 for the Cubs 3.5 back by July 1. The Cubs are a good team. Add in the fact that they've played several more home games than road games and we shouldn't be TOO surprised by their start, though I would've guessed they'd be about 2-5 games lower in the standings. They'll have their skids at some point.
  13. I'll be rooting for Garnett and Rayray but I'll take the Lakers in 6. Kobe will be able to shut down either Allen or Pierce most of the time. Will Garnett and Gasol be matched up on each other?
  14. When basketball teams are so evenly matched (as professional sports teams usually are), the score at any point in the game has a definite psychological impact. Teams up 10 typically will not be playing as hard as the team that is 10 down. All it takes is for one very talented player (which every NBA team has) to take over the game for a stretch. And there are still blowouts all the time. I saw the Bucks on the wrong end of many of them this season. Games 3 and 4 in the ECF were decided by 16 and 19 points and the WCF games 3 and 4 were decided by 30 and 19.
  15. Well, here we are 54 games in, exactly 1/3 thru the season. Looking at how our team has performed and all the players that aren't contributing due to injury, I feel ok about being 2 games under .500. If through the next 54 we regress upwards toward what should be our true talent level with some luck and we go, say, 30-24, I would not be surprised if we find ourselves right back in the thick of the race.
  16. wow, I'm in tears from all these charts and now silly cat pics? My gut hurts. http://graphjam.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/funny-graphs-pie-charts-pie-chart.gif http://graphjam.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/sixth-sense-venn-diagram3.gif
  17. It doesn't really matter one way or the other, especially considering Kendall's WOAHs of late. We just need the hitters to start hitting like they can and in the past week or two we've seen a few flickers of that happening I think. What concerns me more is losing another starting pitcher to injury or lack of productivity.
  18. thanks for the update all, but crap! I thought Dillard was going to get the chance in the 8th but Yost just knows how to push all the wrong buttons.
  19. what happened? gameday changed from a triple to a homer!
  20. Gallardo Sheets Villanueva Parra Capuano Bush Suppan Vargas We had 8 starters for 5 spots (not to mention McClung) and no room in the pen (except for maybe 1) due to acquiring guaranteed major league relievers Mota, Torres, Gagne & Riske. In hindsight they should've held on to Vargas but it can't be viewed as much other than a fluky situation with season ending injuries.

  22. Does a game started by Seth McClung deserve a IGT? Just kidding Seth, mow 'em down tonight!
  23. I've been in favor of this for awhile. If there's a list of names, consider this my X. I'm still wondering why we traded away what was our only LH hitter on the bench with any power in Gabe Gross.
  24. I would think Ortiz will Shousie's responsibility. Sure, but we know with Yost running the show we could face a situation with Shouse already burned and ZachJack as our only left handed option.
