  1. The Rockies may be asking for a lot for Fuentes now but that asking price will come down due to the market being flooded with available relievers. You might get another guy at a cheaper price and the Rockies may decide not to trade him if they don't get the deal they want. Fuentes is mostly just an example of who the Brewers would probably be looking at. I agree, the Brewer bullpen is not that bad. Torres has stabilized the 9th inning and Gagne/Riske/Shouse/Villanueva is a decent combination. Adding CC will ease the pressure on the pen as well. We are much better off than last year at this time. However I don't expect the Brewers to stand pat considering they have already moved most of their chips into the playoff pot if all it will cost is another prospect or two.
  2. I'd go with Torres in that situation, no doubt. I don't care if it's not the 9th. I think the Brewers will add one more steady reliever, maybe Fuentes. Even if we encounter an injury to one of our best position players, we have depth at almost every position to soften the blow.
  3. Both Phillips and Herschiser seemed to think the Brewers would make the playoffs this year. Schulman sounded a little down-trodden after the last out, like he'd been rooting St. Louis but overall they had nice things to say. After Rickie's first AB, Phillips said that Weeks needs to learn more patience at the plate as a leadoff hitter, even though IMO Weeks is TOO patient at times and certainly takes more than his share of walks.
  4. There was no reason for hall to tag. If Ankiel catches it there are two outs and he's already at second. He should've been halfway to third and he would've scored on that play.
  5. take a chance take a chance take a chance take a chance
  6. I wanna bop, with you baby, all night long I wanna be-bop with you baby, till the break of dawn. - Dan Seals I have no idea how this song got into my head as I despise all things country but this thread popped up at the perfect time.
  7. Did anyone realize that this is the last year of Yankee Stadium? The broadcast spent so much of their pre-game airtime on the actual game I didn't catch it.
  8. Cubs (93) Diamondbacks (83) Phillies (90) WC - Brewers (90 - edge Mets by 1 game)
  9. The ninth inning today is an excellent example of why Hall is a better offensive player than BranyAn in all aspects except raw power. Not all outs are the same, putting the ball in play matters, and a home run is a home run, no matter how far you hit it. So, because Hall got a base hit in the 9th today, he's a better offensive player? Branyan over the long haul will be better v. RHP. That ain't man love. And saying Branyan strikes out too much and that Hall doesn't is strange. Hall is a huge K guy too and his BA, OBP, SLG are all worse than Branyan's this season, plus Branyan has superior career numbers.
  10. At least he managed to shield his daughter from the beer shower. Congrats Corey!
  11. I think it's going to be on ESPNNews as well.
  12. IMO McClung will likely go back to the pen, Bush has thrown more ML innings than Seth, has been with the Brewers longer and is pitching pretty darn well over his last 6 or so starts. I'd guess Stetter would go back down or Mota goes on DL.
  13. I don't understand how anyone can not like the fact that we just acquired CC Sabathia. If you're upset about the prospects we lost, at least be excited for the 2008 Brewers and the possibility that this team could be a world series contender. It's always a risk to put it on the line and go for the playoffs in a deal like this, but isn't this what we've been wanting for so long? LaPorta may turn out to be a great player (probably will) but considering the depth at Huntsville and at the major league club (Braun, Hart, Fielder all blocking him -- now my money is on Fielder being a Brewer for a couple more seasons), it's no tragedy to have to part with him.
  14. Why would the Brewers not be even talking with Sheets about an extension yet trade for Sabathia and then sign him to a long term contract? That'd be a slap in the face to Ben Sheets and won't happen, CC has had a little injury history too and may be considered the riskier of the two going forward anyway due to his weight. Sabathia will probably get a little more than Sheets and will be more coveted in the FA market, making him even less likely than Sheets to be re-signed by the Brewers.
  15. must've turned the game off in the middle of the 9th.
  16. Just heard Rosenthal on the radio and he said that another player likely a bullpen guy would come along with Sabathia if Escobar and LaPorta were involved. Nice. I'm on board. I think Sabathia could be worth more than 2 extra wins if he pitches like an ace most of the second half. Bolster the pen and the rotation while not touching the major league club. How about a reliever and a low-level SS prospect to go with Sabathia? LaPorta is going to be a big-time hitter and Escobar is a defensive whiz, we're giving up a lot of potential talent but Sabathia is the kind of guy that should be valuable enough to make the deal. Who knows, we could end up with another LaPorta or Escobar with the comp. picks?
  17. Judging by wins and losses is the reason ESPN still follows the Rockies 2008 season.
  18. I wouldn't worry about this much. We'll need another reliever soon anyway, whether due to injury or Gagne's lack of effectiveness, so DiFelice should be back soon. I like (M)ike but his demotion won't hurt the Brewers unless Yost goes with Gagne in tight games and he blows up. FTJ -- I guess "recent" would be in the eye of the beholder, but I was referring to his elite Dodger days and his "pretty good" Texas stint. While it may seem like a long time ago, I'm willing to at least take a shot with Gagne for a couple of weeks to attempt to deepen the bullpen. I'm not saying that Gagne will work out but it's worth a shot. Like I said, he can be waived and DeFelice would be back with really no harm done, again in the hopes that Gagne isn't thrown into the fire (close games) immediately.
  19. Uptown is very cool, my bro's band played the Uptown Bar a couple months back; lots of places to see. We hit up the Lodge in downtown Minneapolis Saturday night and that place was jam packed, we'd heard that's where Cuddyer is spotted regularly. As we were preparing to pay the cover, an old college friend of mine spotted us and got us in for free! Minneapolis is kind of wierd, it looks like nothingness for blocks and blocks (parking, office buildings) and then you'll suddenly see a happening area.

  21. If you want a good tourist stop for the Mississippi River, stop in Red Wing, MN and climb Barn Bluff or stop off in Prescott, WI or even Winona, MN. I'm guessing you crossed at Hudson over 94W which basically has nothing visible from the freeway. The cool thing though is that downtown Hudson is pretty much right on the river, some cool bars.
