  1. we are being mocked on nsbb.com I think some are missing the "tongue-in-cheek"-iness of this thread over there. http://fireloupiniella.files.wordpress.com/2007/03/mark-cuban-cheers-the-cubs.jpg
  2. http://mypickspal.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/03/chad.jpg http://obits.eons.com/obits/tributes/marge_schott/2096-1-photo.jpg
  3. haha, I was just about to post that picture of Piniella. here's another: http://detectovision.com/pics/lou_83605.jpg I think this thread is working, keep the pictures coming!
  4. Good to see Weeks back at the top, we haven't been scoring much and need something to change, even if just for a game or two. I still think Rickie will have a big impact coming down the stretch. Vargas, pound that meat and please continue to be our lucky charm.
  5. We wouldn't be able to trade Jenkins this offseason unless we picked up his $9 million dollar option. And if we picked up the option at that price, teams are probably not going to want him at that price. If Jenks gets traded, it'll be before the deadline, or during the middle of '08 if we did pick up the option and played him for the first half. This is probably fodder for another thread, but I wonder what will happen to Jenkins this offseason. Do the Brewers just decline the option and say goodbye?
  6. I would hardly have called our rotation a "dominating" one before the season. We did project to have a better rotation than most, simply because of our depth, but Sheets is the only top flight pitcher. Adding Gallardo to that mix potentially gives us another top pitcher to go with Sheets, so the rotation has nowhere to go but up next year. There's no reason to think that Maddux has regressed any as a pitching coach or is any less effective now. In the end, pitchers know themselves better than their coach ever can and are ultimately responsible for their performance.
  7. ugh, I might be a little sick if Gross is demoted before Gwynn.
  8. yeah, I'm not in "worry" mode yet. The Cubs are gaining slowly, but there's not much the Brewers can do or could've done about that. We've been winning at a decent clip since that 10-20 stretch (off hand I think we're 20-12 since then?). If the Cubs keep winning at a .750 clip then deserve the division, but I have to believe 88-90 wins has a great shot at the wild card (for either team). The Brewers would need to play .500 the rest of the way to hit 88 wins.
  9. Ugh, our worst fears realized. NBA officiating is already bad enough without a guy making the wrong calls on purpose. This makes you wonder how many officials (in all sports) have done this without getting caught.
  10. yeah, the Twins are playing this year how I thought they'd play last season ( I told my Twins fan buddy that they'd finish 4th in the Central last season ). The "pirhanas" are playing back to their actual abilities, Morneau and Hunter are having to carry the offense and they have no bench, not to mention their starting rotation is a bit iffy, though their bullpen has been very good. If I'm a Twins fan, I feel a little bit like we did around this time last season about the Brewers, though we hadn't accumulated 4 of the last 5 division titles. I have no pity for Twins fans. They've had plenty of opportunities to see postseason baseball. EDIT - P.S. I hate the Vikings!
  11. yeah Mench! Say what you will about him, but you have to like what Mench is giving us against lefties.
  12. 5 years at Winona State, graduated May '05, BA English specializing in (mostly creative) writing. I worked a couple summers at Gold n Plump in the factory (cold department), spent two years officiating intramural flag football, and worked as a houseman/maintenance at a Quality Inn for the last three years in school. I didn't work my first two years on campus because I was essentially on a free ride from one-time scholarship money. I started working in order to pay bills once I moved off campus for the last 3 years. Are any of you English majors working in your field?
  13. I already have a father, but Ryan Braun is my daddy. What a freakin' hitter.
  14. A few days off during baseball season feels like an eternity. It'll be great to hear Ueck again tonight. My lineup: RF Hart SS Hardy 3B Braun 1B Fielder C Estrada LF Mench 2B Weeks CF Gwynn (EDIT: No Jenkins tonight.) P Capuano
  15. The Brewers Cubs race for the NL Central is mentioned here as the "most fascinating of the division races" by Phil Rogers of ESPN. LINK 4. Ned Yost vs. Lou Piniella, discuss The most fascinating of the division races figures to be in the weakest division, the NL Central. Milwaukee is trying to get to the playoffs for the first time in 25 years and enjoyed a dream first half, with Ben Sheets and his fellow china dolls all healthy at the same time. But Bill Hall's turned ankle and the Cubs' 12-4 run down the stretch to the All-Star break have heightened the concern for the Brew Crew faithful. Piniella spent the first half of the season discovering guys such as Mike Fontenot, Ryan Theriot, Carlos Marmol and Felix Pie while trying to make a right fielder out of several left fielders and seeing if he can afford to play Cesar Izturis and Koyie Hill on the same day. The Cubs can make the 4½-game difference vanish in a hurry, especially if GM Jim Hendry adds a pure right fielder or a catcher who can hit and handle pitchers. You can also vote here for what you think will happen in the 2nd half in the NL Central.
  16. Can someone tell me why Ichiro would be thrilled to get an American made SUV when he could get an imported car with better gas mileage? Because it's free? I know he's rich (soon to be insanely rich) but still pretty sweet I'd say even if he just gives it to a relative.
  17. We still have a need for a righty off the bench too. I'd still rather have Mench than Gwynn in reserve. I don't see how the Brewers deal Mench unless they: a) get another RH bat for the bench in the deal or in a separate deal. b) believe that Graffanino is enough. c) believe they can bring up someone from the minors like Rottino to fill that spot (which I don't think they would do).
  18. Is it just me or did Chris Isaak transpose "fight" and "night" in the national anthem?
  19. It seems some of us are saying that Cappy has been bad this last stretch, while the others are saying that Cappy has been bad this last stretch but it doesn't mean he won't be good/average again based on secondary stats and career history. Brettac's right, we've basically been arguing around each other this entire thread. Some are trying to predict future success/failure for Capuano while others are trying to explain his bad ERA for the last month or two. Whether you like statistics or not, they are there, and some are more important than others. If you don't care to know why that is, then it's usually best to believe the people who do know instead of trashing the stats and the people who are using them.
  20. Braun is our best hitter right now, we must need more Jewish players! Yet another embarrassing article from Mr. Kane. I'd be offended if I was one of the players mentioned. I wouldn't want people claiming that my race, not my level of talent, is what helped the team succeed.
  21. right now would be a good time for a "hungover on a tuesday" thread in homage to Dredg.
  22. I say again, yeah baseball! even though your home run derby sucked. and I am drunk on a monday! yahoo!
  23. highlight so far is Bonds "I don't even know what a commissioner does!" comment. over/under for total amount of hours spent tomorrow on coverage and debate on ESPN of Bonds HR derby interview: 4.5
  24. yeah, baseball! Disappointing that Prince is out in the first round, but yeah baseball!
