Team Defense is winning games

Let's give some credit where credit is due. In part, this team is winning games with better defense. Billy Hall has been outstanding at third and a big upgrade over Braun. Braun has held his own in left...that was a nice throw to the Hardy to allow him to cut down Dunn yesterday. Jason Kendall has been huge behind the plate in both handling pitchers and actully throwing out runners (haven't seen that in awhile). Guys like Fielder and Weeks keep getting better. I'm very impressed.

 

The benefits could be long lasting. Not only saving runs along the way and winning games, but I felt at times our pitchers were having to get 2-3 extra outs a game last year. That can really wear out a bullpen...like happened to us last year. Who knows, if our D stays this good, we might be able to go down to 13 pitchers. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

So far this year we are at +9 using thehardballtimes plus/minus rating, last year we were -41 or something like that. That is a pretty huge difference assuming we can keep it up.
