Probably because he's a gritty, battler. And he's our future leadoff hitter. If the option is between him and Counsell, then things are a little worse than I thought on this team.

Weakest hitting DH in history. That should be Russell Branyan in that spot, Gwynn in AAA.

It doesn't. It's an apparent attempt to get more men on base at the bottom of the order. What good does that do with two black holes batting between the bottom of the order and the big boppers? Is the goal to get men on base for Weeks and Cameron and their sub .200 batting averages?
