Strangest reason to lock a thread I've ever seen.

I think once Glendon Rusch gets mentioned in a thread it's automatic grounds for a lock. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I said I was speechless last night, and that got deleted. Therefore I will simply say my thoughts and FTJ's are in alignment.

To be honest, that lock and the deletion both speak volumes. It is Brian's site and he can do with it what he pleases. That said, threads can now be locked for a full moon, black cat in the room, and anything else. I can't see that as a positive.

Yeah, I'd like to echo the sentiments of the previous two posters. That thread was harmless.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Actually what you said was:

Heh.

Wow' date=' I think I'm speechless.

Wow.[/quote']

That managed to both add nothing to the thread and be condescending toward the site. That's why it got deleted.

I find it ironic how people who claim they are speechless feel the need to tell people about it.

And while I don't think the thread should have been locked when it did, I think it was for the best in hindsight; it likely would've turned into a vent thread about why we didn't hit those pitchers better and/or a collection of comments better suited for the IGTs.

I think that's a stretch B19.

At Ramblings, we refer to that as "adding color".
I checked just to make sure, but we're not at your blog. That's not how we (in the community "we" sense, not the royal "we" sense) add color here. "Heh... (insert statment)... wow." does not witty repartee make.

By the way, thank you PitchLeague for the kind and rational PM. I belong to many forums and many mods I've seen can get so defensive over any kind of criticism or even questioning.(though I started the thread out of surprise more than anything)

So props to him for being positive. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

you're welcome.

Even if it does eventually get locked for whatever reason, pre-emptively doing so before it actually becomes a problem is a slippery slope. You guys do a great job on the whole - I only had an issue in this one instance.

It was an honest mistake by a newbie mod. I understand the reasoning, but over time they should get much better at waiting to lock a thread until it is absolutely warranted.

On the bright side this has to be some sot of a record for a complaint filed against a new mod. Congratulations!

My initiation was pretty minor and came after only a few weeks, but it turned into a gift that kept on giving.

It started when I had to point out that a former member had circumvented the cuss filter. The response was a rather lengthy PM saying "I didn't cuss." Later in the same PM, I was told that "told me to do it."

Every couple months for about a year, this former member would bring up this situation out of nowhere in whatever thread he happened to think of posting about it.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I'm glad everybody's having fun with it. So I had an itchy trigger finger; I guess it have a pretty itchy trigger finger at school, too. I'm always looking to nip things in the bud before they happen at school, so I suppose I was doing it here, too. Oh, well.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I am not scolding anyone for making jokes at my expense or anything. I've been smiling along/laughing with the last handful of posts, too.

Have a great day everybody!

p.s. Should I lock this thread before everybody else on the site piles on? Oh, wait! There I go AGAIN! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
