I am wondering if anyone knows of C. Scarpetta's status? I can't find him on any roster. He was the high school pitcher drafted out of Rockford last summer. Any info anyone? Thanks.

He was scheduled to debut yesterday, but the game got rained out, so hopefully he'll make his bow tomorrow.

Thought I would bring this up since the kid has some potential and has shown it.

I am very excited about Cody Scarpetta. I hope the Brewers push him this year as opposed to the one level a year that most prospects see. Obviously his performance will dictate this, but I don't like seeing someone held back if they have dominated at least half a season.

I would say his inclusion of the 40-man would dictate that he gets bumped fairly quickly, as opposed to the one level at a time approach.

His inclusion on the 40-man was more of that oddity of his being drafted, signed, failed physical, and resigned. Rather than expectations of moving up quickly.

 

He has a high ceiling, but needs to show more control to move up quickly.

Regardless of the reason for being added, being on the 40-man makes him more likely to be moved aggressively. You don't want him to run out of options in AA.

And that's what I was getting at. I know of the technicality (and paranoia over Jack Z. Rule 5'ing him) that led to his inclusion, but since he is on the 40 man, I think this year, he could force his way to AA or even AAA. He's burning options with every year he's not in Milwaukee.

Scarpetta will get 4 option years, so he goes into spring with 3 options left. It's like they added him this year. If he pitches well in Brevard, he'll finish the year in at least AA - he's still well on track, and won't have to be rushed.

Right, he'll be perfectly on track assuming he stays healthy for the next three years. Unfortunately, you can't assume health for a pitcher. I think he'll only be in Brevard for half a season. If he spends the second half in Huntsville, the team will have a little wiggle room in case he struggles or misses time with an injury.
