The mutual option serves as leverage for Looper. Basically he gets a one year deal to show what he can do, and cash in, in 2010 with a multi-year deal.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but just had to pipe in and say that Garland is now sitting at an 5.75 ERA on the year, this is basically a Jeff Suppan quality pitcher who had a lucky ERA one year in Chicago. I'm so glad that we signed Looper for less instead of going after him.

Looper seems to be giving the Brewers exactly what they were hoping for...innings and a chance to win just about every time out....a very solid middle of the rotation guy.

Man did I get a queasy feeling tonight when Looper looked like he might be hurt. I'm hoping it really is nothing, because he was just great tonight.

When they showed the replay it looked to me like maybe he just stumbled a bit because he caught a cleat during his delivery. However, the announcers said they did not see anything, so I might have "mis-seen" that.
