Matt Wise Retires

I found this on MLB Trade Rumors. I always liked Matty, but he never was the same after he hit Pedro Lopez.

 

Reliever Matt Wise Retires

More retirement news. According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Matt Wise, who pitched last season for the Mets, has also decided to end his baseball career.

 

The 33-year-old threw for several clubs this winter, but none offered a contract. He played in the majors for eight seasons and will finish with a 4.23 career ERA.

Hard to believe just a couple years ago there was talk we were getting Adam Dunn for him and TGJ

 

Always liked him as a pitcher and a person as well...hope he has a fruitful life

I always enjoyed Wise when he was a Brewer and wished him the best when he left. He always seemed like one of the good guys.

Weird, I was just wondering yesterday what had happened to him.

 

It's too bad how one errant pitch seemed to change him instantly.

Since nobody offered him a contract, I'd classify him as having been retired rather than retiring. He basically just acknowledged reality. He had an okay career and should be able to look back on it with pride.

I thought he had a couple of years left in him even if he bounced from team to team.

 

That one pitch really did take a real toll on him.
