Cubs trading for Jeff Baker from Colorado

According to Yahoo! sports this has been completed, but I can't find confirmation of it anywhere.

 

I wonder if this means the Cubs are giving up on Fontenot. With Ramirez slated back, that's two players the Cubs have to remove from the 25 if they plan on using Baker soon.

I would assume they don't really plan to use him soon anyway. Seems like just a bit of a backup plan. Miles just went on the DL (and is bad), Ramirez status is uncertain at best, and Fontenot is bad.

Over the pas 3 years, Baker's had an away OPS of .644. There's like a 70 point difference in BA as well.

 

Fontenot's better than that, even when he's bad.

Fontenot is one of the Cubs I fear. He, Theriot, and Fukudome seem to kill us more than their stars.

Turns out they just DFA'd Ryan Freel.

Seems like a crap for crap trade that was essentially pointless. Definitely feels like Hendry made a trade just to make a trade. Baker can't carry Freel's jock strap and Freel isn't really any good either.

Interesting... Hendry kinda has to do *something*, since he squandered away DeRosa & McGehee prior to this season for basically nothing. I can't really blame the guy for grasping at straws at this point.

He did primarily bat lead off the past several years and can play 2B. Been really awful this year though. Can I assume the Cubs will end up on the hook for his salary ($4M) assuming they can't swing a trade?
