Rockies sign Olivo 1yr w/option, $2.5 million

Very similar type deal to what Brewers gave Zaun, only $1 million more.

 

For the extra million, I'd have rather had Olivo, who's 7 years younger and has averaged 17 HR and 56 RBI compared to Zaun's 9 and 37 over the last 4 seasons.

Olivo is also probably the worst defensive C in baseball. I'd rather have Zaun for 2.5M than Olivo for that price.

The Royals let Olivo sign with Colorado for 1 year, $2.5 million and signed Jason Kendall for 2 years, $6 million. I don't know if this has to be said anymore, but if I was a Royals fan, I'd be pretty peeved with Dayton Moore.

 

Decent enough pick up for the Rockies, and considering they just signed Iannetta to an extension, it looks like Olivo's only going to be a back up option. He'd have pretty good pop as a pinch hitter, too, if they went that route.
