Welcome Back, Big Head.

per RotoWorld:

Nationals signed OF Kevin Mench to a minor league contract.

The deal comes with an invitation to spring training, where Mench will

try to win a spot as a backup outfielder. He spent the 2009 season over

in Japan, playing for the Hanshin Tigers on a $2 million salary. The

32-year-old hit .243/.321/.357 in 115 at-bats for the Blue Jays back in

2008.

He ruined a lot of my days, that's for sure. As far as I can tell, Mench only played for Hanshin for a few weeks last year. He appears to have been diagnosed with some sort of problem in April and DL'd and then sent to the Japanese minors (ni-gun, or "second troop". Kind of seems to be the equivalent of extended spring training or rookie league) for the rest of the year.

Hopefully he doesn't stick around long enough for Melvin to consider picking him up as a stretch drive bat.

Considering Texas dumped both on us, I've always debated which Kevin was worse, Mench or Reimer. Thank god Reimer is too old to play, he is Canadian, and more importantly has ties to the Texas organization. Melvin would be all over that.

I always liked the big lug. Sure, he stunk up the joint, but he seemed like a nice guy. Best of luck to him, if there is any team he can make it on, it's the Nationals.
