Volstad 2009 avg. velocities (per FanGraphs)

FB: 91.5

SL: 83.0

CB: 78.4

CH: 84.4

FanGraphs shows the slider as being a new pitch for Volstad (or, at least, he hadn't thrown it in MLB prior to this season). 5.74 K/9 & 3.30 BB/9 for him so far this season... this is a pitcher the Brewers should hit, and this is a game they should probably win.

Gallardo on the mound, hope he bottled up we he had in his outing vs the Mets. Low pitch count, low walks, deep into game. Lets do it Yo! And offense, please score the man more then 2 runs and before the 9th, thanks.

Dear Yovani:

I think I speak for many Brewers fans when I ask you to remember how nicely things went in your last start, and keep doing those things. Thanks!

Best wishes, and stay well,

This may be the Brewers' best chance at winning a game this series. I hope Capuano does well tomorrow, but I'm not expecting him to win going against Josh Johnson. Volstad's a guy the Brewers have touched up before, if I remember correctly.

Edit: Nevermind...doesn't look like he's faced the Brewers before. Must be thinking of someone else.

So Kottaras is batting behind Gomez. Is Macha high or just incredibly stupid?

He is thinking that Hart is going to hit a home run every at-bat, so Gomez becomes a second lead-off hitter. I'm not sure if that should be in blue, because I have no idea what Macha is thinking these days.

This may be the Brewers' best chance at winning a game until June 8th.

Is Macha high or just incredibly stupid?

Well, I'm pretty sure he isn't cool enough to be high, so that leaves only the alternative.

Not that I agree but maybe his thinking is that he doesnt want a basestealer in front of the pitcher since you dont want to get thrown out when the pitcher can bunt you over or end the inning to have the pitcher lead off again.

I also wonder about this moving the lineup up 1 spot, you will get more ABs for your good hitters but I wonder if it is worth it since at least 1 of the ABs there is less chance to have runners on for the boppers. Although based on how horrible our 2 spot has been this year we probably wont lose too many runners on for Brauny.

If that were the case, he wouldn't bat Escobar 8th as much as he does.

He hits Escobar 8 because he is a rookie and Macha hates going with young guys.

Or it could be that Escobar is probably the weakest hitter on this team.

A good basestealer 6 makes some sense. Once you get that far down the order leveraging speed can help. You just don't want guys with low OBP in front of your best hitters. One or 2 spots in the order isn't really a big deal. Putting a guy #2 when he is one of your 2-3 worst hitters and should be #6 or lower is just bad.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Officially in a rain delay. Luckily, neither starter has warmed up yet, so we won't have to worry about scrambling to pick up innings from a short start (yet).

From Haudricourt:

"Miami - They just told us the game between the Brewers and Marlins is expected to start at 7 p.m. CDT.

So, still plenty of time for the locals to get here. Not only are there plenty of good seats available, there are plenty of good sections available. Heck, there are plenty of good decks available.

These South Floridians love their baseball."

I'll admit I chuckled. This doesn't hold a candle to Uecker's comments about the fans in Florida though. After Cameron struck out, he said something along the lines of "The fans in Florida liked that call; both out of their seats cheering!"

More awesome defense. Even though it is kind of hard to fault a guy for losing a ball in the lights.

ouch, bad call by 3b ump
I thought it bounced watching it live and I thought it bounced watching the replay. Certainly close enough that you can't classify it as a bad call either way.

Agreed that Kottars and Gomez should be flipped in the line-up...but if this is the trade off to get Weeks-Braun-Prince and Casey 1 thru 4, I guess it's worth it.

Oh, and Ken gets high on life.

Hard to believe this is the third time this year not to watch a starting pitcher in the 9th.

Whatever you do, do not tune in to watch Armando Galaraga pitch the 9th inning in the Detroit/Cleveland game.

Andres Galaraga is pitching according to Brian.

Wow. Jackson with an over the shoulder the catch in deep left center to keep it intact. Willie Mays like.
