Yeah, I agree. Even if he puts together two perfect innings today & tomorrow, his value's still gone. My use of "there's" was meant as "there was", like all the other past-tense I used in that post. I shouldn't have used a contraction there, sorry for the confusion.

He definitely won't gain any value before Tuesday, but he could gain a little back and be traded sometime in August. I doubt that happens either at this point, but it's possible.

I'm kinda thinking K-Rosene isn't truly this bad in general, but beyond any doubt he is this bad right now. If there's any chance of there being truth to that....

 

I wonder if some team would still take a flyer on him just on the hope that a change of scenery might make enough of a difference.

 

Two pluses if a deal is made:

1. Salary relief (even if only partial)

2. K-Rosene can't blow any more games for us

There were teams that wanted him before he took over the closers role and completely blew it (pun intended). He really boned the Brewers on those blown saves/terrible outings in so many different ways.

Do we know that it was Melvin? Maybe the Giants didnt want or feel like they needed him until then. If it was Melvin then I am disappointed because I would have loved to get something at all for KRod

I'm guessing the Giants were just waiting to see how K-Rod would do in some save opportunities, and they backed off when he looked horrible. Because the 9-game stretch was already over before he blew those saves. He could've been traded before the first Philly game if that was truly the hold-up.

I'd highly doubt Melvin would've held off on possibly trading K-Rod if the Giants had a decent offer on the table. There's enough leakage out there that I take these reports to mean the Giants just lost interest, which is a different issue entirely than pulling an offer. I'm guessing that while mutual interest was high, there never was an actual offer.

 

And if that's right, there's nothing at all to fault Melvin for in this situation.

 

I'd think Melvin would've loved to move K-Rod even if it only netted salary relief and organizational filler.

Some fault has to go to Melvin/Attanasio for not trading sooner, but far and away the most fault has to go to K-Rod for falling apart when given the opportunity to shine. Kind of ironic that performing best in high pressure situations is exactly why teams pay closers big money.

 

Sad as a Brewer fan that one blown "spotlight" performance could be the difference in having the money to pay a decent reliever/backup SS next year or not. In other words, what we could've saved by trading K-Rod could've been enough to pay for an entire year of his replacement next year.

K-Rod has had two awful months. At the same time, he won't get a closer role next year, so I'd consider using this poor year to offer him a 1 year deal for $4 million. I'd offer Marcum 1 year for $8 million as well, with a 2 year $22 million option should he show he's healthy

My view on $4 million is that it's half what he's making this year, and could probably keep him here for a year. That's the going rate for a good setup man, except it normally takes a 3 year commitment

Yeah, if I were spending that kind of money on a reliever, it certainly wouldn't be K-Rod. There's no way I'd bring him back at this point. Put that money to better use. Although, I'm not sure K-Rod will even get $4 million at this point.

For as good as K-Rod was last year and for a stretch this year that at least included June & early July, I think what others are saying is rooted in this:\

 

It's just time to move on -- for both K-Rod & especially the Brewers.

 

They already ended up with him a year longer than they truly intended, so I'd doubt they'd have any interest at all in another. They tried to make the best of it, but way too often (for what he ought to have been able to do), his performance just didn't cut it. Fresh start time.

Marcum won't be back on a 1 year/$8M offer. Either you offer him the 1 year/$13M qualifying offer or he hits free agency. His injury will probably prevent him from getting as big of a deal as he had hoped, but he'll do better in dollars and years than 1/$8.
