I think the "Gallardo isn't a true ace" comment might be the most tired comment on this board over the past five years.

 

He's OUR ace, and with the right rotation around him... This team can win a championship.

Gallardo is 25th amongst starters in WAR since 2009. He is probably misclassified as an ace. He is 58-37 in that time frame with a 3.42 xFIP which is 12th overall for full time pitchers in that span so he should be classified as a very good pitcher though. He can't help that he has been on poor defensive teams in a hitters division in a hitters park.
