They've been trying to trade him for years because they realize he's terrible.

Still like the trade for the Phillies. Def. seem like they are going for it this year! I always liked Young and 5 years or so ago wanted the Brewers to get him!

Young has been consistently been above average over his entire career so suggesting he is terrible probably suggests a lack of understanding talent. Having said that he is old and last year was a pretty clear decline season so I wouldn't be looking to trade for him personally.

I'm going to guess that was sarcasm. Michael Young is the quintessential-professional hitter. And they jerked him around for years. Personally I wish him all the happiness in the world in Philly.

A .682 OPS and 78 OPS+ in 2012 suggests that Michael Young is now terrible. At his age (36 for 2013) he might well be cooked.

 

I hope that the Phillies check for a fork in his back when they perform his physical.

The fact the Rangers are covering a huge part of his salary actually makes this deal look decent though I still think there is a decent chance Young is just done.
