Ryan Braun calling season ticket holders; Graffito to close -- 11.27.13: Braun to answer media questions at charity event

as far as I'm concerned he got that deal under false pretenses.

As far as I'm concerned, every contract Braun has ever signed came BEFORE any of the drug-related activity for which he's been suspended.

He won't "give up" his contract, and based on all the information available, he shouldn't.

I think it's a good move. It's better than sitting on his kiester during the suspension and doing nothing. Sure, PR probably has a lot to do with it, but for a guy who is probably going to be with this team for the foreseeable future, anything you can do to personally put yourself out to the fans is worth your time imo. It's not like he has to start worrying about baseball again until February.

It's now being reported that Braun and his mother are helping build homes for veterans in California. New York Daily News has a picture up.

Obvious PR move

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

It doesn't matter to me that he's getting good publicity for doing these things. The only thing that would bother me is if he just showed up to a home-building charity for a half-hour to get his photo taken, and then went on with the rest of his day. There's no indication that he's doing anything like that.

The world has plenty of opportunities to help mankind. If he gets to smile for a camera, no big deal.

Somebody gets a house, and maybe Braun gets some personal growth.

The difference in my eyes between the phone calls and other standard PR moves (major cash donations to charity, apology interviews, etc) is that this actually takes time and effort from Braun. As someone who has to spend a couple nights a month calling through lists of people that I don't know I can attest to what a slog it can be. Paying $200 for a robo call would be way easier than spending several nights working the phones. Will be interesting to see how many he gets through.

[sarcasm]Until he comes to Superior and sings Randy Newman songs at karaoke, I won't be satisfied.[/sarcasm]
