Broxton for McCutchen

Posted

This would give Pitt a CF for 2018 plus and a little salary relief.

This would give us an upgrade for 7 plus weeks. We have Brinson and Phillips for 2018.

Would probably have to add a prospect or two, now that I think again.... Or is Cutch an institution that would cost a lot more? Yet, the longer August goes, the cheaper he becomes, right?

IDK, seems a tough proposition to sell making a trade like this to a division rival they're so close to in the standing. Maybe a few more days of MKE winning and them losing and then they can kind of consider themselves eliminated and do it. Right now i'd guess they think they still have a shot with just one hot streak.

There's not a single reason for Pittsburgh to consider this unless they're also getting top prospects in return.

Broxton won't clear waivers for one. At 500K someone would probably claim him.

Even if McCutchen cleared it's not a strict rental, there's a pretty reasonable option year next year so they would want more.

Plus there's something about trading a guy for Jason Rogers and then trading your franchise player to get him back that probably would not be a great PR move with the fans.

Nice idea but there's a few reasons this wouldn't work.

Would be fun if it did happen. Essentially would have gotten Andrew McCutchen and Trey Supak for Jason Rogers. That would be amazing.

Didn't realize that Cutch had an option...

Same here. I thought he was a FA this year. That pretty much ends this thread. One year at 14.5 million for a player like McCutchen? This would be like the Brewers trading Braun had he not had the whole....PED "thing."

A beloved face of a franchise. It would be one thing if he was set to become a FA but not with another year left for such a relatively cheap deal.
