Throwing out another catching target.

 

The Reds are obviously, rebuilding. Barnhart is somewhat serviceable offensively with little pop but does get on base well for a catcher and strikes out at a minimal clip and is excellent defensively.

 

The nice thing about Barmhart is that he has a very team friendly Lucroy type contract that keeps him under club control at a very modest cost through 2022.

 

This is also the bad thing about Barnhart since that low price and controlability likely will come at a higher trade price than one might expect.

I like Barnhart, and I actually think he's underrated offensively. That said, the team control and within division makes a trade unlikely. The Reds have no reason to move him unless they are getting a really good offer.

I don't think the Reds are in a position right now to worry too much about that. If the Brewers offered them a decent return for him, and it was the best offer, I'm sure they'd listen.

The Reds have played really well lately and because Votto isn't going anywhere, I don't think they'll do a complete rebuild anytime soon. They have a nice young core in Suarez, Peraza, and Winker already producing. Barnhart is on a team friendly deal through that including an option year, runs through 2022.

It wouldn't shock me if they caught Pittsburgh in the standings this year.
