40-Man Current Total: 39

^ Currently optioned to the Minor Leagues

# Currently on the 10/15-day Injured List (or the 7-day Concussion Injured List)

## Currently on the 60-day Injured List

[BCRP] Currently on the Bereavement/COVID/Restricted/Paternity List

(x) Number of times player has been optioned in current season (max of 5, but options don't count toward this total until May 1st)

- Player has already burned option for current year

* Player has at least 5 years service time and cannot be optioned without their consent (or player has signed an extension or free agent contract and likely has a clause not allowing a minor league option without player consent)

** Some players are eligible for a 4th option year if they spend an entire option year injured or have burned all 3 options in their first 5 pro years. A 4th option year burns the year it is given even if the player spends the entire year on the Major League roster.

i'm seeing mike brosseau spent less than 20 days on optional assignment in 2019, but at least 20 days on optional assignment in 2020 and in 2021. thus, i calculate one option remaining, not two.

From his mlb.com profile, it looks to me like he spent the entirety of the 2020 season at the MLB level, which would suggest that he did not use an option that year:

- Recalled July 23, 2020

- Rays played first game of the season July 24, 2020

- Not optioned until mid-2021

The following players could reach 5 years of service time in 2022. Once they do, they cannot be optioned to the Minors without their consent.

Pedro Severino - 73 more days

Josh Hader - 57 more days

Brent Suter - 11 more days

Hunter Renfroe - 7 more days

First time checking this out after the forum update and my initial reaction is that this list looks horrid with so much whitespace, also not sure I can edit these old posts anymore, so this thread may just die.

EDIT: Looks like I can edit new posts, so when I have time I'll create a new thread for this so I can edit it going forward.

There was a time limit on edits. I saw your post and removed that editing time limit.

I also fixed the white space in this post.

i feel that this excellent thread should be posted (and pinned) in the milwaukee brewers talk forum, and not here in brewers minor league talk. given the new rules on limiting optional assignments, it affects the players' statuses on the major league active roster and the 40-man roster once hitting that fifth optional assignment.

Thanks for your help.  I just added McCutchen and Boxberger and unfortunately the spacing is still an issue when adding lines myself (doing this from my phone, not sure if this would be avoidable on desktop).  Any tips for how I can avoid this when updating in the future?

Enter is a paragraph break, Shift+Enter is a single line break.

Important note for this thread in April:

So won't start counting options until May 2nd, but at that time I assume anyone who is currently optioned will burn their first of the year?

It doesn't count toward the 5 limit per year at this point but a number of players have passed 20 days and have now burned an option this year.

These players have been updated now.

Now that we've reached May 2nd, player options will count towards their max of 5 for the season.  All players currently optioned have been marked.

hate seeing this excellent thread buried. it's a great review of the organization and potential trading chips (i.e. another club may see value knowing that keston hiura has yet to burn his final option, and could enter 2023 camp with an option remaining).
