Low-A Carolina aims to close out a 5-1 series victory over Kannapolis at home, with RHP Fernando Olguin looking to overcome a rough start earlier in the week (3 IP, 8 R, 6 ER, 6 H, 5 BB, 3 Ks). Yesterday's walk-off hero LF Oswel Leones is batting 3rd, while some guy named Willy Adames is manning the DH spot:

The Timber Rattlers trail their series at first place Cedar Rapids 3-2, so need a win today to salvage a split for the week. RHP Ryne Moore gets the start, looking for his early season magic (2.31 ERA with Low-A Carolina, 16.71 ERA with High-A Wisconsin). C Wes Clarke smacked his 5th home run of the year yesterday and has an 8-game on-base streak:

The Cannon Ballers jumped on Carolina early with 2 first inning runs, with the key hit being a double by the White Sox's top-ranked prospect, SS Colson Montgomery.

The Mudcats clawed 1 run back in the 2nd inning, as Jackson Chourio reached on an infield single and scored on a Jesus Chirinos RBI groundout. Carolina trails 2-1.

After being called out on strikes his first time up, Willy Adames blasted the first pitch he saw in the 3rd inning to right field. The 2-run shot gives Carolina a 3-2 lead.

3B Luis Silva is manning up:

  • Game-tying RBI single in the final inning last night
  • Bases-clearing double in the 4th inning to give Carolina a 6-2 lead today

Jackson Chourio knocked in 2 more runs that inning with a single. It's 8-2 Mudcats.

Willy Adames walked in his 3rd plate appearance and exited the game, which I'm assuming was the plan.

RHP Michele Vassalotti has relieved Fernando Olguin, who settled down nicely to cover 4 2/3 innings overall.

Back-to-back homers by Tyler Black and Carlos D. Rodriguez in the 2nd inning have extended Wisconsin's early lead in Cedar Rapids to 3-0.

Tyler Black homers for the second game in a row and Carlos Rodriguez (his name seems to pop up in every box score these days) extends his on base streak to 10 games with a homer himself. It's 3-1 T-Rats here after two complete. Rhyne Moore gets out of the second relatively unscathed - with men on first and third and two down he throws a wild pick-off to first for the lone run and then induces a ground out to end the inning.

Meanwhile, in our thread, Julio and damuelle go back-to-back as well ?

Tristan Peters appears to be slowly heating up once again. After a walk earlier in the game, he leads off the third with a double to right field - his seventh of the season.

The T-Rats get lead-off men on second and first to start the third. They proceed to fly out, line out, and fly out to end any chance at more runs. Peters and Clarke are stranded on third and first, respectively. Hopefully, this doesn't come back to haunt in the bottom-half.

Moore gives up two singles after a lead-off groundout and then Wes Clarke commits a throwing error attempting to nab the runner at second who steals the base and heads to third on the error. It's 3-2 T-Rats as Moore strikes out the next two batters stranding the runner on third.

That's two runs off of two T-Rats throwing errors. On to the fourth inning.

Ruh roh! Carlos Rodriguez just left the game due to a left knee injury. ?

This is not good news after he had been on a red hot streak throughout May. Let's keep those hopes up it isn't serious. Ugh.

Tristan Peters have a ball game young man!! He smashes a two-run Home Run with Peters and Gray Jr. on base for his second and third rbi's on the afternoon And, just like that it's a 6-2 ballgame.

Chourio continues to impress with a four hit day. Speaking of impressive, I wonder if Tyler Black is knocking on the door of a promotion to Biloxi. He’s had a real nice season so far.

Man, this knee injury to Carlos has me all sorts of 'Not now! No way, no how!' He was coming into his own before our very eyes.

Ryne Moore with by far his best outing since his High-A promotion. Facing the lead-leading Kernels, he goes 6 complete innings of 4 strikeout, 5 hit, 0 walk ball. The no walks is huge for Ryne as he struggled with nerves and control in his first two outings. He did manage to hit two batters today so he'll look to clean that up. He had a pick-off throwing error as well. But, all in all, a huge outing for this young man's confidence. Big congratulations, Ryne!

A lead-off triple to the red hot and very dangerous Anthony Prato comes back to haunt James Meeker. The tying runner is at first base but Meeker manages to induce the weak ground out to third. It is now 6-4 T-Rats on to the top of the ninth.

The Kernels bullpen has now pitched 5 straight scoreless innings and it is on to the bottom of the ninth where the ever-reliable and often dominant Cam Robinson looks to end this game at 6-4.

An 0-1 curveball has no curve and stays inside hitting the lead-off batter. The tying run is now at the plate with nobody down.

AA Biloxi has won 3 in a row at home against Montgomery and send RHP Noah Zavolas (7.71 ERA, 1.71 WHIP, 7.7 K/9 in 7 innings) for his third start of the season. RF Joey Wiemer (.976 OPS in 186 plate appearances) has reached base in his last 8 games, homering in 3 of them:
