Pujols hits 700

I hate the Cardinals. And I'm not a big Pujols fan. But it was nice to see the guy reach 700 HRs. It's a huge accomplishment - and I didn't think he'd get there. It would have been cool to have done it at home - but whatever.

So congrats to Albert. He did something few others have ever done - which is cool.

When I was watching the Badger game, they put a graphic up that had two items--Judge chasing Maris's record (I guess Bonds, Sosa and McGuire don't count), and Pujols trying to crack 700 HR. The irony oozed off the screen.

Maris has the AL record that is why he is chasing Maris.

Great, maybe he'll finally retire now once the season is over. Preferably after a very brief playoff run.

He's not realistically chasing Bonds, but he's only one away from tying the Yankees and AL record.

Take it in, we may not see it for a long time. Mike Trout is probably the best shot we have among active MLB players. But even he is a solid 70ish behind Pujols had at the same age. However, as long as he doesn’t fall of a cliff like Pujols did I think he can manage. There are maybe a few young guys, but kinda soon to know. Vlad Jr. debuted young enough and has to power for it.

Counting stats are becoming a bit harder to reach with batting down these days in MLB and guys usually don’t debut as young as they once had.

Mike Trout doing it would be pretty incredible. It seems like it would be virtually impossible at this point for a United States born player to manage it just because they don’t get the opportunity to sign at 16 years old and be in pro ball development already. Chasing a HR stat, every year of your prime years is gold.
