The Rattlers and Chiefs are tied 2-2 in this week’s series, with Wisconsin sending 21-year old RHP Stiven Cruz out for his second start (4 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 Ks last time). 23-year old RF Joe Gray Jr. (.321 AVG, .906 OPS in 32 PAs with only 5 Ks) seems to have figured out High-A pitching.

Solid start to the baseball day, as Stiven Cruz K’d the first two hitters in a scoreless first frame.

In the bottom half, Eric Brown Jr. jumped on the first pitch for a single. With 2 outs, Darrien Miller pulled a 2-run double into right field. 2-0 Wisconsin after one inning.

The Mudcats and Red Sox play a doubleheader today, with RHP Yujanyer Herrera starting the opener for Carolina. Will 3B Luke Adams or 1B Tayden Hall do more damage?

Stiven Cruz exits after 5 shutout innings and 66 pitches thrown (43 strikes). RHP Brannon Jordan comes in. Wisconsin leads 6-0, with 8 batters having 1 hit each.

The first 3 batters of the game reached base against Yujanyer Herrera (walk, single, walk), 2 of which scored to given Salem an early 2-run lead.

SS Daniel Guilarte opened the bottom of the 1st inning with a base hit. Sluggers Luke Adams and Tayden Hall both walked, so of course Carolina didn’t score. 😥

Je’Von Ward nearly had a grand slam for the Timber Rattlers. Chiefs’ center fielder Victor Scott II (2022 5th round pick) would get an “A” for effort, but he’s a Cardinal, so Boooooooo!!!!!!

Salem Red Sox right fielder Juan Chacon stole a hit from Eduarqui Fernandez with this catch with 1-on, nobody out in the bottom of the 2nd inning, then gunned down Daniel Guilarte at home in the 3rd inning. Someone should tell him to take it easy. Still 2-0 Salem over Carolina.

After walking Luke Adams to load the bases with 1 out in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Salem basically had no choice but to pitch to Tayden Hall: first pitch, 2-run double to center field. It’s a 2-2 ballgame.

Hedbert Perez (totally lost, I’m sorry to say) then K’s on 3 pitches for the 2nd out (he’s stranded 5 runners 2 at-bats, both K’s). But now the Red Sox have balked Adams home. 3-2 Carolina after 3 innings.

A win today for AA Biloxi would clinch this week’s series over Pensacola. 21-year old RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez makes his 2nd start of the year (4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 8 Ks last outing). DH Zavier Warren (.870 OPS) has a 6-game on-base streak.

Salem has walked Luke Adams for the 3rd time in 4 innings, the last 2 times loading the bases. The 18-year old is simply too intimidating to pitch strikes to.

And after Tayden Hall made them pay in this situation last inning, they simply walked him. 5-2 Carolina leads.

Yujanyer Herrera settled in nicely after the wild 1st inning, throwing 72 pitches over 4 2/3 innings. 23-year old RHP Chase Costello comes on in relief. Carolina 6, Salem 2 through 5 innings.

Chourio with 2 more strikeouts today flailing on offspeed/breaking pitches not even close to strikes. His K-rate is around 33% this season so far.

AAA Nashville leads their home series against Norfolk 3-1. Down a few starting pitchers, RHP Caleb Boushley (6.75 ERA in 6 2/3 IP) gets the call on short rest. 2B Josh VanMeter is healthy and makes his organizational debut.

I'm kinda wondering if he's becoming overrated at this point. Could be a one-year wonder.

Not sure about that but I do think they rushed him to AA.
