Because agreeing to it would be admitting the umpires suck at calling balls and strikes. As long as the umpires union is as strong as it is, there is no incentive for them to get better at it.

It's honestly a bit weird seeing a 35 year old reliever with nearly 800 innings pitched in his career throwing his cutter harder than he has ever thrown it in his career.

Both can be true, but the Brewers play is much more responsible for this loss than the umpiring, so I’ll focus on that. 

The offense has been pretty mediocre since the opening series against the Mets and the pitching can’t be great every night.

Freddy had Casas (54 wRC+ on the year) at an 0-2 count after the Hernandez walk. He ended up walking Casas. That's on him. Maybe we don't win this game either way but Freddy walking a terrible hitter after going up 0-2 is in my opinion the biggest reason we lost this game.

At the same time, that at-bat shouldn’t have even occurred as Peralta had Kike struck out..

Yeah, I agree. I felt the game kind of hinged on that.

Wiemer on 2nd with no outs & the top of the order coming up. Inning ends with Wiemer still on 2nd. That didn't help.

Yelich is just confounding. He contributes---he did early tonite---but it's so incredibly odd to see the # of times he gets ahead 2-0, 3-1 & fails.

I've seen a lot to like from Wiemer. But young man, you gotta take 2-0 when down by 2 runs & no one on base. I know, Jansen most likely isn't walking him. Still.
