  1. I think people's expectations were/are way too high with Chourio. He's got a 127 wRC+ so far which is easily a career high, while providing plus value on the bases and in the field. On pace for a 4+ fWAR season over 162. That's a great player. Does he still leave you wanting with his swing decisions in a manner that's preventing from ascending to one of best handful of players in the game? Certainly. A "disappointment"? Hardly. Few guys are instant MVPs at age 22. Chourio's production to this point places him in a very select group in MLB history filled with HOFers. Development isn't linear. PCA, for instance, is two years older and is only now starting to show better swing decisions. It took Jordan Walker until this year and he was infinitely worse than Chourio. Bottom line, is we are incredibly fortunate to have him locked up for the foreseeable future. I pray you don't have the same expectations with Made, who is hitting at a similar level in AA right now as Chourio did.
  2. I get wanting to add more pitching to the system to complement our strength in position players, but it's such a relatively weak class for pitchers that I'm hesitant to take any of these guys at 25. Only guy I'm really confident in hitting is Flora, and he ain't falling anywhere near the Brewers' pick. After taking Fischer and Wilken 2/3 drafts, I'd probably revert to the tried and true route and go up the middle at 25. College would be fine (Rose, Jackson--I think he sticks at C) but HS looks particularly promising (Marchand, Thome). Oh, how I would love if Trevor Condon falls to the Brewers. Also, wouldn't mind adding another Ebel to the system in the 2nd round.
  3. Brewers getting pretty fortunate here with Cruz, Horwitz, and now Griffin out for Pittsburgh. We'll take it.
  4. Can we please keep the Mitchell-Chourio-Turang top of the order please? Don't think you're going to get a better combo than that for this team. Those are the guys you want getting as many ABs as possible (in addition to Bauers). No more Yeli leading off....
  5. He doesn't. That's the point. He's being played appropriately and has been the entire time. He's a different hitter against RHP compared to LHP. Was never hitting the ball at a .900+ OPS caliber level.
  6. Where are all my "Vaughn needs to be in the lineup everyday" people at?
  7. Good stuff. Was going to pull this up in response to the OP, but you beat me to it and saved me the time. Think some people need to look past the big names of the Braves and Dodgers to a lesser extent. Brewers may lack that kind of name recognition, but their production stacks up incredibly well across the diamond (especially vis a vis the Braves). 1B and OF being among the prime examples.
  8. Don't look now but Sal Frelick is up to a .252 batting average....Nice rebound in June for him.
  9. Crooked number would be nice tonight. Exorcise the RISP demons.
  10. You already have RISP. With a hitter who crushes LHP. You want to take your chances with Perkins instead? It was a .830 xBA lineout on a get me over fastball. Unfortunate, but happens. Great swing.
  11. What was wrong with that contact by Sanchez? It was right down the pipe and he put a good swing on it. I have no problem with that. You have a hitter who crushes lefties getting a very hittable pitch with RISP.
  12. I would personally classify Jackson Chourio as pretty "steady"....
  13. Plus, if you would poll any contender's fanbase after a frustrating loss like yesterday, you would get a list at least this long. No team is without holes. The Brewers have as few as any team this side of the Dodgers.
  14. Perkins is only on the roster because Lockridge is injured.
  15. Chourio and Made (if he's extended) are easily your best shot. Mis is probably out of the realm of possibility for an extension at this point, but if he wins a Cy Young this year and has his best years in MIL during his prime, he'd probably go in as a Brewer. Which is good because with starting pitchers not logging as many innings and breaking down more frequently than ever, we're going to have to put more emphasis on peak production or otherwise not have any more starting pitchers inducted into the HOF.
  16. One more potential question for Spencer specifically: with Luke Adams finally healthy and heating up in AAA, do you think he could potentially become a real consideration at 3B if the Ortiz and Hamilton platoon doesn't hold up offensively?
  17. Now that we're arriving at the halfway point of the season, do you think this Brewers team is better than last year's franchise record winning version? Are they better equipped for a long post season run and a real shot at taking down the Dodgers and where would you like to see them improve between now and the deadline/October? Do they have enough in AAA to supplement the roster and where might they have to look outside the organization? Curious for yours and Jack's opinion on this "big picture" sort of question. Don't have to answer everything in here, but would appreciate more of a halfway point evaluation. Thanks!
  18. What's wrong with Sanchez? 125 wRC+ from your backup catcher is tremendous. His job is to crush lefties and he does that.
  19. Uribe and Megill are really rounding into form. Velo and stuff are now extremely close to where they were at last year. If you look at their savant profiles, they have been increasingly more dominant than their surface level stats would suggest right now. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/abner-uribe-682842?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/trevor-megill-656730?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb I was on the side of wanting Aroldis Chapman to plug into the 9th recently, but now barring injury I think we can get by with more of a Shelby Miller type addition in the pen.
  20. You’re conjuring up a hypothetical that isn’t even relevant to my original point, so no I’m not going to answer. The fact remains that Vaughn and Frelick vs RHP are virtually indistinguishable to this point in the season by the surface level stats and metrics. There is no getting around that.
  21. My argument is exclusive to RHP and has been this whole time…. Overall, Vaughn is clearly the superior hitter. But against RHP his bat speed and power are down significantly to the point where he’s not really that different from a guy like Sal Frelick (who is hot this month btw). Thus, in a situation such as today where there’s righty starter on the mound, Frelick’s range in the OF quite reasonably gets him on the field over Vaughn.
  22. Against lefties you’d be right. Against righties? Nope. Which has been the point the whole time.
  23. “Can’t compete with the Braves” “Can’t hit good pitching”
  24. How you feeling now? Also, have you seen Vaughn’s slugging % against RHP? Almost identical to Frelick’s. Effectively the same hitter against RHP right now indeed.
  25. Not wanting to let routine outs and singles to turn into hits and XBHs is stupid? Against RHP, Frelick and Vaughn are statistically the same hitter. Thus, defense and range becomes a tiebreaker at a park like this.
