Access to the boards

Posted

Sorry if this has been asked and answered somewhere else, but I'm using (apparently) identical setups at work and home - win xp, Mozilla Firefox (same security settings) and while I can access the boards easily from here, from home (cable) I can't connect to them at all.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or can suggest a course of action?

Thanks,

- Jack

Actually I get a popup box that says "could not communicate with..." etc.

I would contact my ISP but this is the only site I have encountered that I have an issue with, so it's highly unlikely they could do anything about it. I'm concerned because I'm off work for the next couple of weeks (starting Friday) and won't be able to get my "fix"... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Yes, I understand (I used to teach a class on basic Internet functionality). I'm baffled. This has gone on for a few weeks now. If it wasn't just this one site (and specifically the boards). I don't have a problem with any other boards, so I wonder if there's something specific about the host for this board that's a little different?

This may or not be related, but I had a similar problem a month or two ago with another site I visit regularly. I couldn't access that site, and only that site. However, if I used a web proxy (e.g. anonymizer.com), it worked just fine. I did a search and found that sometimes if you have broadband with dynamic IP set up, weird things can happen. The article just suggested that you see what your current IP was and set a static IP to that address, but I actually just waited for a week or something and it magically cleared itself up.

So, just on the off chance that it's the same kind of problem, try going through a proxy site and see if you can access it then.

Thanks guys. I'll give this a try and see what happens. If I disappear from the site for a couple of weeks, you'll know it didn't work... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Well, I'm here, from home, but interestingly I haven't changed anything yet. The problem, whatever it is, seems to be an issue only at night... strange...

Probably has something to do with the Patriot Act. Or maybe your ISP is solar powered.

I had the exact same problem. Every single other website worked except the forums here.

I had an older router that was causing the problem. The baffling thing was that if I hooked directly into my modem it would work, and would continue to work after I went back to my router (my roomates needed access). Then a short while later (maybe a day or two) I'd have to rinse and repeat, so to say.

Since then I've moved to another place and another router and it's worked like a charm.
