The Low-A Mudcats lead their series in Lynchburg 3-0 and have RHP Logan Henderson (2.25 ERA with 15 Ks in 8 IP) starting tonight. INF Jheremy Vargas (.677 OPS in 96 PAs) gets his 2nd start at shortstop this season.

High-A Wisconsin dropped a close game yesterday, but leads their home series 2-1 over Peoria. RHP Stiven Cruz (6.23 ERA in 34.2 IP) aims to build off of a decent last outing (5 IP, 2 R, 6 Ks). 1B Ernesto Martinez returns to action for the first time in 7 days.

AA Biloxi trails their home series against Pensacola 2-1, but has stud RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (2.82 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 12.5 K/9 in 44 2/3 IP) on the hill tonight. 2B Felix Valerio is 8-for-12 over his last 4 games.

The AAA Sounds lead their road series in Charlotte 2-1 and have steady LHP Thomas Pannone (3.45 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 7.8 K/9 in 28 2/3 IP)) on the hill. LF Skye Bolt (.774 OPS in 82 PAs) returns for his first game in 8 days.

The Mudcats and Sounds are following in the Brewers’ footsteps with low-scoring nail-biters.

Carolina and Lynchburg were tied 1-1 through 7 innings on strong pitching by both teams (Henderson + Wehrle for the Mudcats). 4 walks and an error in the 8th inning allowed Carolina to inch ahead and they ultimately held on to win 3-2.

Nashville and Charlotte were 0-0 through 6 innings, with Pannone doing the heavy lifting there. Tyler Naquin came through with a 2-run double in the top of the 7th inning before the Knights grabbed a run back in the bottom half. 2-1 Nashville leads through 7 innings.

Ethan Small blows a 3-1 Nashville lead in the 8th inning. Just getting rocked. 107, 100, 109 EV against him. It's 3-3 now and Small got pulled with 2 outs and a runner on 2nd.

Carolina has won 6 straight and yet they haven't gained any more ground ahead of Down East who remain 0.5 games back our Mudcats. They've won the first four at Columbia. What a tight race we have down the first half stretch.
