Boom or bust.

If he hits the high end of his variance you probably get 160 Cy Young-worthy innings. At the low end of the variance, he gets hurt reading an art book and misses the whole season. Would you? If so, what would you be willing to part with to get him?

I can't say yes. I think he has shown what he is, and while any pitcher can go at any time, I don't trust him to stay healthy. 2020 was the last season he didn't miss significant time.

eww...no thanks to a guy set to make $25M to spend most of the 2024 season on the injured list.  He had back issues last season on top of a slow recovery from TJ.

If TB pays $20M of his 2024 salary, maybe you throw them an organizational filler back their way in return, but nobody of significance on prospect lists.  But, this is most likely Tampa looking to offload a bad bet on that two year contract extension they signed Glasnow to right after he blew out his elbow a year into arbitration - so I don't see them willing to eat most of that 2024 salary amount to make a trade.

More directly tied to the Brewers, I wonder how or if this impacts Burnes's market.

Burnes is healthier, and like $10M cheaper.

Would think any team with enough payroll room to pursue Burnes would be viewing Glasnow as a back up plan.

Possibly. Burnes is definitely better and more reliable.

But I think it might cramp Burnes's market a little in the sense a team might go "that ask is crazy, ima go get Glasnow instead".

No doubt.

Just using Brewers prospects as an example, Burnes would probably require a headliner like Black. Has had success at the higher levels, but has some questions about his glove keeping him in the back half of the Top 100 mix.

Could probably get Glasnow for a guy like Lara. Similar, maybe even greater upside than Black, but also more risk being farther away from MLB and without a ton of physical projection. Guy that could be in the Top 100 himself in a year, or could get exposed the higher he climbs the ladder and flame out along the way.
