Agreed to all above.  To have a play-in game(s) for the 12-seed or whatever just doesn't make sense to me.  I don't think it was always like that.

I think an extra 4 play in games would be ok if they were for the 16th seed.  Play 1 game for the 17-18 teams and then another for the 16th seed.  I think that would be more fun.  All of the 17-18 seeds would have to be from minor conferences.  I think that would make it more interesting.

Watching the high school tournament last weekend, it finally hits me.  Watching 26 treys in the D5 championship game.  The conversation turned to how (high school) FT% is down across the country.  The thought being the players practice to hit the threes and not the 15-footers.  Being 58, not sure if the evolution of the game is necessarily going in the direction I enjoy.

I agree. I’m good friends with our high school coach and we just had this conversation. Also of note is that it’s more difficult to get kids bought into playing D. Theoretically, shooting 3s should open the floor for driving lanes and get kids to the free throw line.

there are calls for Cal's job. He has had an awful run in the tournament that his firing chance is no longer non-zero.

Please no!  May they sign him to a lifetime contract and be mired in mediocrity for all of time.

There is a theory that UW is responsible for that after they beat Kentucky in the 2015 FF, Kentucky has never fully recovered

I don't really buy that theory, I just love the memory of that game.

Agree. I don’t buy it either but it’s great that it’s been a while since Kentucky has been a title contender IMO

Auburn lost today to Yale. Maybe Bruce Pearl should be canned; he hasn't taken them to a FF since 2019.

Grand Canyon v St. Mary’s is looking like a mirror image of the Badger game so far

And the 12-5 bug bites St Mary's. An excellent, well-coached program that hasn't advanced past the second round in fourteen years. It happens.

True.  I saw a video earlier this week that had Kentucky's buzzer beater against Wisconsin in 2014.  I had completely forgotten...due to 2015.

The "second" round had four 5/12 games and four 6/11 games.  Final result for those who take a financial interest: lower seed 6-2 ATS, 5-3 SU.  That's a 71% ROI.  Or maybe this belongs in The Investment Thread?

Gonzaga absolutely destroyed Kansas in the second half.  What was a very competitive game in the first half became an absolute beat down in the second.

10 minutes in and MSU giving Carolina all they can handle.

On edit .. Nevermind

I really think Illinois will be the last b10 team standing and possibly the only one getting to the second weekend

Understatement of the day.

Utah State played like dog crap no matter what but it was pretty obvious in the first 10 minutes that body contact and over the back were not going to be called.

An 82% free throw shooter goes 5-11, including two that would've tied the game in the final 30 seconds. The moment was too big for the freshman.

Anyway, the ACC goes 8-0 in the first two rounds.

Eight-seed West Virginia gives top-seed Iowa all they can handle on their own court.

Apparently, Utah's best player is the Pac-12 POY, who looks like she is better suited for the Brew City Bruisers.

Former Badgers coach from long ago, Mary Murphy, still doing analysis on ESPN.  How does she get these gigs?
