RHP Alexander Cornielle has a 0.00 ERA in innings 1-3 and a 13.50 ERA in innings 4-6, so he’ll try to put it all together for High-A Wisconsin today as they seek a 3-2 home series lead over Cedar Rapids. The promotion of 3B/1B Mike Boeve to Biloxi means more playing time for 1B Jesus Chirinos (0 BB / 10 K this year after a 64/102 ratio last year).

Hopefully we see Tayden Hall promoted to Wisconsin is the near future

Back-and-forth game in Appleton. T-Rats scored 3, Kernels responded with 5, T-Rats countered with another 5. 8-5 Wisconsin after 4 innings.

Wisconsin likely regrets 2 outs on the bases early, but Cedar Rapids will regret their 3 errors.

Alexander Cornielle had thrown 34 pitches in the 3rd inning alone, leading 3-1 with 2 outs, so exited for Wehrle who promptly gave up a bases-clearing double to lose the lead at that time and push Cornielle’s ERA up a few more notches.

Wisconsin has stolen 5 of 6 bases thru 4 innings.

Unfortunately Luke Adams exited after singling, stealing a base and scoring in that 5-run 4th inning. Tayden Hall - paging Tayden Hall over in Augusta…

SS Gregory Barrios’ 8th double (He’s not a Man, he’s a Machine!) of the season knocks in 2 more runs. Wisconsin is now up 11-6 after 5 innings.

I guess we just drive other teams’ coaches crazy. For the 2nd straight day, an opposing coach is ejected. Today, it’s Cedar Rapids’ hitting coach.

Wisconsin leads 14-8 in the 7th inning.

The AA Shuckers welcome DH/INF Mike Boeve (1.273 OPS in 53 High-A PAs with a 13 BB / 5 K ratio) to their lineup and send RHP TJ Shook (4.15 ERA with 11 Ks in 8.2 IP) to the mound as they seek an 8th consecutive victory, including 5th straight at home over Chattanooga.

The Low-A Mudcats aim for a 4th straight win at Augusta while still basking in the thrill of plating 5 runs in the 9th inning to snatch a win last night. 21-year old RHP Josh Timmerman makes his 2nd start (3rd appearance - 6.75 ERA with 11 Ks in 6.2 IP). DH/OF Yophery Rodriguez took the team RBI lead (11 in 12 games) with his game-winning grand slam.

With Boeve's promotion he now has two different minor league stops with a .500 or better batting average.

15 for 30 (.500) in the ACL last year and now 21 for 38 (.553) at Wisco this year.

Obviously tiny samples and that, but can't be too many guys with that on their resumé.

18-year old INF Juan Baez has been caught stealing on 6 of 9 attempts thus far in 2024. That’s after successfully stealing 19 of 21 bases last season.

I suspect we’re just going to have to accept this as part of the learning process. Maybe he’ll steal 40 bases and get caught 27 times this year. C’est la vie!

Boeve fouls off 5 pitches, but ultimate Ks in a 9-pitch at-bat in his 1st-ever AA plate appearance.

(blue font) Will he ever get a hit?

Time to shut him down

When the opposing pitcher Ks 3 of 4 Shuckers in the 1st inning, you look him up. Yup, they’re facing the Reds’ #5 prospect: Reds’ 21-year old RHP Chase Petty. But he struggled in his first 2 starts of 2024, so we’ll get to him.

TJ Shook with 2 H | 1 BB | 3 K through his first 3 IP.

Meanwhile the Shuckers bats have gone off for 5 runs with Darrien Miller (double), Freddy Zamora, Zavier Warren and Noah Campbell (double) each batting in a run so far.

Luis Castillo has joined Yophery in the Carolina homer club today.

Juan Baez (3-4, 2B, BB), Daniel Guilarte (1-4, BB), Kay-Lan Nicasia (1-3, BB), and Blayberg Diaz (2-3) have also reached multiple times with Castillo adding a walk and Yophery adding a pair of singles to their respective bombs.

8-6 Mudcats middle of six.

Ethan Murray single, Darrien Miller single, Freddy Zamora double, wild pitch, Zavier Warren single has plated three more for the Shuckers to extend their lead to 8-0 with nobody out bottom of five.

TJ Shook has raised his K total to 7 over the last two IP while ceding no additional base runners.

He's been so good so far this year. Would be cool if he managed to turn himself into a long reliever and get to the MLB after many including myself wrote him off.

The thing for me in this is (and I know you know this) he's been really effective since late last season. So, he carried it into the off-season and got better. This year, he is just taking off on a different level and I am so here to witness him overcome his rough start as a Brewers prospect. AND, I always remind myself: he got drafted high with lofty expectations and was becoming a new father. That just is not an easy transition.
