Janson Junk exiting after 45 pitches yesterday is especially odd in light of the lack of a known starter today. LHP Nick Bennett may need to step up and give Nashville 4 innings today. We’ll see.

I for one consider this Sunday a fun day because Carolina will leave Augusta and their horrible camera work at the end of the day!

The Low-A Mudcats get us started today, looking to win a 5th straight game in Augusta. 21-year old Yorman Galindez (3.38 ERA with 9 Ks in 5.1 IP) makes his 3rd start of 2024. Can CF Yophery Rodriguez homer for a 3rd consecutive game?

Can the AA Shuckers make it 9 wins in a row, including a 6-game home sweep of Chattanooga? LHP Nate Peterson (0.84 ERA with 11 Ks in 10.2 IP) makes his 2nd start of the week. DH Noah Campbell (.977 OPS in 44 PAs) has a 12-game on-base streak.

The High-A Timber Rattlers can clinch the series 4-2 with a home win over Cedar Rapids this afternoon. 22-year old RHP Edwin Jimenez (6.55 ERA in 11 IP) makes his 3rd start. 2B Dylan O’Rae and CF Luis Lara both have 6-game hitting streaks.

The AAA Sounds are clinging to a 3-2 home series lead over Omaha, but they’ve run out of starting pitchers! LHP Nick Bennett (1.35 ERA in 6.2 IP) steps into the breach, having exceeded 50 pitches in 6 of 33 games last year. 2B Yonny Hernandez has a 15-game on-base streak.

So… Yophery Rodriguez strikes out in 40% of his at bats, but gets on base in 41%? I’ll take it?

Denominator for K% is plate appearances (same as OBP) so “only” a 34:4 K% for Yophery so far.

It would be nice if it were lower for sure, but given his production and age relative to league I think it’s live with-able for now.

Chourio K’d 28% of the time when he was with Carolina so I’d hope Yophery’s K rate will creep down as he gets more exposure to A ball pitching.

After 4 scoreless, hitless innings from Yorman Galindez, LHP Osbriel Mogollon takes over for Carolina.

The Mudcats put 5 runners on base in the first 2 innings but failed to score. Thankfully they put one across in the 4th inning (Miguel Briceno single, balk…ultimately scoring on an error). Carolina 1, Augusta 0.

Unfortunately Mogollon ran into immediate trouble in his first half-inning: 2 walks, double, single. Mudcats now trail 3-1.

Wisco scored two bottom of first with a Dylan O’Rae walk, Jadher Areinamo double, Luis Lara fly out (Jadher to 3rd) and Matthew Wood sac fly.

Edwin Jimenez has gone three scoreless with 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K.

Carolina won’t be allowed a chance to come back tonight. Game in North Augusta, SC called at 3-1 in the 6th inning due to rain.

Nashville up 3-1 early via Chavez Young and Tyler Black solo shots plus a Vinny Capra sac fly.

Brewer Hicklen has also walked twice and stolen a base.

Nick Bennett stepping up admirably so far with 1 ER over 3.1 IP as James Meeker comes on to try and bail him out of a runners on first and second, one out jam.

TRats go final with the 2-0 win.

Jimenez finished with 5 IP | 2 H | 1 BB | 4  K before Chase Costello (2 K), Stiven Cruz (1 H | 1 BB), Aaron Rund (2 K) and Craig Yoho (2 K) finished it up with a scoreless frame each.

Given the limited number of arms available, you can’t blame Rick Sweet for trying to get more than 54 pitches out of Bennett (ended at 69) and 31 pitches out of Meeker (ended at 33), but one can argue that also cost Nashville 2 runs. 3-3 game now in the 7th inning.

Omaha has retired 10 straight Sounds, so the offense had better wake back up.

Well this is helpful: the Sounds get 2 runs in the 7th inning without hitting the ball out of the infield. 3 walks, 1 HBP, 1 nobody out fielders choice. Bases still loaded, nobody out. Nashville 5, Omaha 3. Go Nashville!!

And that’s all we’d get from that inning: shallow fly, shallow fly, K. Ugh.

Okay, Corbin Martin enters for the 8th inning, Sounds 5, Storm Chasers 3.

There we go. Tyler Black delivers a clutch 2-run single on the 8th pitch of his at-bat, after Haase and Capra each singled. 7-3 Sounds going to the 9th inning.
