Remember some years ago when the rumors of Wheeler coming to Milwaukee were dismissed because he wasn't any good?

He wasn't then. Tommy John fixed him just in time to become a free agent 2 seasons later.

3-1 final. Would have thought worse reading the thread.  Wilson has done a good job as a #5 replacement SP. The team has lost 5? 6? Starting pitchers to injury. They all can't be Cy Youngs. What these replacements have done is incredible. FO will have to make a move acquiring at least a #3SP to finish the season. Adames will sacrificed to do so

Good ballgame.  Breaks just didn't go our way.  Phillies with a 2 out rally to plate 2.  Brewers have had their fair share of those.  They hit a solo shot.  We hit a solo shot.  Missed opportunity with bases loaded and nobody out.

Think we get them in game 2.

Contreras, Yelich, and Adames go 0-12, Meanwhile, Perkins, and Bauers go 3-5 with a BB. Wilson gives up 3 to the Phillies through 5.2 IP.

But somehow, this loss was all on Wilson, Bauers', and the FO refusal to start Chourio against Cy Wheeler.

This comment is ridiculous.

If you read the chat all the way through, that's what the comments would lead you to believe. A bit (perhaps a lot) tongue in cheek I think...

PITCHING PROBABLES TONIGHT:

Brewers: Colin Rea (4-2, 3.77 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 42 strikeouts); Phillies: Cristopher Sanchez (3-3, 2.83 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 56 strikeouts)

But it's a zero-sum game - if the bullpen covers inning 1 instead of inning 6, how is that burning them?

On balance, you're correct of course, if performance was in a vacuum. The issue I'd have with using him there would be similar if you suggested using your closer as a starter. Sure you want a clean inning and you'd hope any of your traditional relievers would provide that. It's just that Hoby is Murph's go-to guy when the game dictates he is needed. You could make the argument that that moment could happen in the first, or that his use there may ensure a big inning doesn't happen there in the first place. I think he's proven that he is the stopper and you need to keep that ace in your hand until the game dictates. Just a strategy preference on my part, although some statistical genius probably has a different way of looking at it! lol

Fair point. My posting in the IGT, vaguely calling out posters for their irrational takes in the moment is a bit childish, and ridiculous. I apologize for anyone that may have been insulted.

I wonder how many remember that the Brewers acquired him for Carlos Gomez, until they didn't.

I hear ya. I made a reference last season to a game in Cincy. I was unable to sit & watch it, and when I finally was able to check on the game I decided to get an update from the IGT rather than through audio since I wasn't sure it was still going on. Reading a few pages I figured The Brewers were trailing something like 7-2. Turns out they won in extras.

I don't see any way they trade Adames. He's in his last year, so anyone dealing for him is looking at him as a rental, meaning they're in a playoff hunt. Someone in that position isn't giving up a worthwhile starter.

My nightly putting the kids to bed routine is to check in on the IGT because it's quieter and less bright than the game. If it's 3-5 pages long, we're winning...if it's 5-10 pages long we're losing. If it's over 10 pages we came back to make it close and blew it late, or we ended up winning.

Any loss seems to bring out the haters, despite this team exceeding expectations like crazy so far and doing it very banged up as well I might add. Pretty exciting!

The tearful SS. It wouldn't have mattered much with the 2 seasons of TJ no play. Reasons to have hope for a Miserioski.  Weak control that improves not long after TJ and going from a hopeful #3 to Ace stats.

Good point which I thought about but you worded the reasons why he wouldn't be traded that completed my thought.  It would take a team with a tradeable draft pick making up for the QO pick. Baltimore already gave us theirs.
