Breakdown

It's been an interesting stretch of games for the Brewers since the All-Star break. You can't really call the team hot or cold, but luckily, you can't say that about many teams in baseball. Even the Dodgers and Phillies, the current top two teams in the National League, have been mediocre at best as of late. So, despite middling results from the Crew, the Brewers sat only three games back of the Phillies for the first overall seed going into play Sunday.

As for last week, the Brewers began the week in Milwaukee against Atlanta. The Brewers would win the first game 8-3 behind Colin Rea, boosted by homers from Willy Adames, Rhys Hoskins, and Jackson Chourio. However, neither the offense nor the pitching staff could get much going in games two and three, allowing the Braves to capture the series.

A trip to the nation's capital would follow, with the Brewers again starting the series with an 8-3 victory, this time behind the newly acquired Frankie Montas. A rough first inning would sink Aaron Civale and the Brewers in game two, dropping the game 6-4 to set up a rubber match. The Nationals would jump out to an early 4-0 lead despite an effective start from Tobias Myers, and the Brewers' late comeback effort would fall short, losing 4-3.
