A good first baseman has to stretch and steal that out. Bauers took it straight up.

I was thinking the same thing on the replay. C'mon Jake, go out there and get that ball.

And yet: 6 GS, 33 IP, 3.82 ERA, 3.60 FIP, 3.94 xFIP.

Over a full season that would be the best SP in this year's rotation.

I agree with you that any talk of extending / re-signing him is premature, but that's mostly because with the way this org finds and develops pitchers, I'm not sure they should be giving anyone over 30 guaranteed money. But "he's had a grand total of 2 good outings" is far underselling what he's provided, I'd say. He pretty clearly looks like their #2 starter in a playoff series.

Yet Civale has better numbers over the same stretch (in ERA, not necessarily all peripherals, but it's a very small sample size).

No one is talking about him as a #2.

Frankie has been decent. Again, he's allowed at least 3 earned runs in all but 2 starts. What am I missing here? That's not someone I'd want taking the ball in a Game 2 for me.

I'd rather see Frelick here as I don't have confidence in Garrett catching up to the fastball.

You were indeed correct.
