What are their contracts projected to look like?   I could see Mark going strong after one of the two if Goldschmidt doesn’t come to fruition after Adames leaves for his big deal.   Thoughts on one of these two as our “big splash”?

Hernandez is going to get a big contract (4/100ish) so he is 100% out. Mountcastle would be fine if we can move Hoskins, he will cost 6-7 million in arby with 2 years control and would likely cost 2 decent but not huge prospects or more.

Yeah, Hernandez is very unlikely.  His contract will be huge.  I wouldn't particularly want him anyway.  I'm comfortable with our outfielders.

Mountcastle is the definition of "meh".  I do recognize, however, that "meh" is better than we've had in a while.

I certainly wouldn't give up anything of value for him.

I personally believe 3B should be the #1 priority this offseason.

An O’s fan mentioned he’d like DL Hall back for Mountcastle yesterday when I posted something similar to this on Mlbtr.   That’s interesting if nothing else.

I'd just run it back with Hoskins. He had a mediocre year, but a year removed from the ACL, I think he'll get back to where he was.

He has an ~850 OPS for his career, .242/.353/.492

I think you're likely to get similar production out of all of them as a hitter and Hoskins is poor fielder, but he's a poor fielder at 1B.

He wasn't bad enough to make too much of an effort to swap them out. Without Betts, Ohtani, Freeman in the lineup, is he likely to be substantially better than Hoskins or match his career year(he had a better line in 2020, but 60 games).

I don't think we need to do more re-tooling than 2B/3B, the BPA to replace Adames and take over at 3B/2B.

Honestly, we might be facing him in this round of the playoffs.

I agree that we don't need to move Hoskins, hopefully he can replicate his earlier career retutns. I would like to get a better backup for him. Bauers was passible but I getting a better 1B/DH option there would be a sneaky way to add value, if they could play some 3rd as well great.

With the team needing to re-negotiate the ‘25 local TV deal and getting less money, unless the Brewers advance to the NLCS, they will probably not add much if any payroll next season, so signing a pricy FA likely isn’t happening.

Thank goodness they have a nice young core returning with only one glaring weakness, 3B, and a brilliant, creative FO that should be able to, at worst, at least make it competent.

We don't have to add a 3B really.  If we decide to just keep Ortiz there, we can be on the look out for a 2B, assuming Turang slides to SS.

Are there better options out there for a 2B than a 3B?  We do have some options coming soon in the pipeline at 3B, so maybe what I am suggesting makes sense?

We are stuck with Hoskins, and I agree, he'll be better this year than last being another year removed from his injury, but will he be good enough that we feel comfortable with him as our full time 1B?  I'd say no, and we'll add another reclamation project like Bauers. (ugh)

Not really. Other than Bregman, who will most likely get a contract similar to what Matt Chapman just signed, there aren't any players that are a combination of decent bat, decent glove. Most are pretty flawed, OR they are unlikely to actually hit free agency (e.g. Eugenio Suarez). I mentioned in another thread that of the free agent options, my pick would be a one-year deal for Gleyber Torres. He's bad a shortstop, and a sub-par 2nd baseman, but has never played 3rd. His bat, believe it or not, isn't far off from Bregman's recent production.
