for what? we need a 3rd baseman....

Yea if true, makes zero sense.

Unless trading Frelick for 3B, which I highly doubt... But even then, just run with Yelich, Mitchell, Chourio, Perkins as our OFs.

Margot becomes RH hitting OF vs. LHP when Perkins is traded for a 3rd baseman?

I would hate that.  I don't see any way the return on a Perkins trade would be near to the value he brings to the Brewers by being on the team.

I tend to agree, and obviously take this with a huge grain of salt, but someone was able to put this trade together on the BTV site... I would definitely consider something like that if other teams value him enough to get someone like Rengifo in return. A guy like Rengifo would be perfect as he can also play all over the field allowing some flexibility to fill in wherever needed as the season progresses and in the case that one of the young guys flops.

First lineup

Ortiz at ss Turanq at 2nd

This has prompted a rollercoaster of emotions:

  1. BREWERS BASEBALL IS HERE!!! 😁
  2. Darn the game isn't going to be on TV 🙁
  3. Realizing I'm no longer able to think, "but at least I still get to hear Ueck!" 😢

Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports that the Brewers are signing Manuel Margot.

Interesting. He had a down year last year, but before that he put up a wRC+ of at least 92 in each of the previous 4 seasons. Could be a sign of an upcoming trade, or Frelick actually moving to 3B, or just depth. But could be a good guy to mix and match against lefties:

vs. RHP 2022-24:

It's probably a minor league deal as injury insurance for the OF considering we have no notable OF prospects in the high minors outside Lara (assuming he starts in AA) who isn't exactly knocking on the MLB door.

Wow, good eye find, that is exceptional against LHP.  Also, Manuel Margot suffered a "right groin strain" in August 2024, forcing him to exit a game maybe accounting for his down season last year.

From the above link:

He’s also an Article XX(b) free agent (i.e. six-plus years of service, ended the prior season on a major league roster/injured list), meaning he’ll have three uniform opt-out dates in his minor league contract: five days before Opening Day (March 22), May 1 and June 1. He can opt out and elect to become a free agent at any of those points if he’s not on Milwaukee’s 40-man roster.

So may not be here long, but he's at minimum good depth in case of a Spring Training injury or trade (assuming he doesn't flat beat someone out for a roster spot).

Man, words can not express how excited I am to see Ernesto Martinez get his due respect. So fun to see him in the Brewers clubhouse. Such a likable young man:

Certainly.  I just can't fathom the return player in a Perkins trade being a big enough improvement over the in-house options to make up for the loss of Perkins.  That's just me thinking of it in a 1 for 1 type scenario, which obviously it wouldn't necessarily need to be.

I feel like Perkins brings so much to the table for us despite not at all outstanding offensive numbers.  Tremendous defense obviously.  Injury insurance, keeping the regular outfield fresh.  Switch hitter with pretty even splits so you use him any time.  That's a pretty important cog in the Brewers' elite outfield machine.

Ha.  That was me. I was messing around when Trout moved over to RF.  Didn’t see a CF on the roster (Adell and Moniak are a stretch).   I like Rengifo as a plug and play decent hitter in multiple spots.  Wish he had more control though.

Perkins for Baty since Mets CF bader who was a very good defensive cf departed makes at least some sense.

Mets don't need Perkins. They traded for Jose Siri during the offseason.

Best position for Turang is 2nd and Ortiz it's SS

You know this how? Just because Turang is the best second baseman doesn't mean second base is his best position.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.
