Any thoughts on going against conventional wisdom and trading for a young starter like MacKenzie Gore? I kind of like the idea if he doesn't cost to much. If you think we are likely to trade Peralta this offseason Gore would offset that loss. He has gotten better each year and with our IF could take another step. Gore, Peralta, Misi, Woody, Priester make the best rotation in the league for a playoff run. Trade Quintana for a prospect or 2. Keep Gore through 2026 and trade him before his last year to recoup value.

Henderson, Patrick/DL Hall, Wilken/Boeve/Adams, and Jadher/Josh A for Gore

Washington's GM said they are not looking to trade Gore.

Dang, all my musing are going no where.

Edward Cabrera could be similar, he has a year more control but not as consistent. I wouldn't give up Henderson for him. Patrick/Hall, Boeve/Wilken, Arienamo/Josh A, and through in DSL prospect.  He does have some very high upside that could warrent a decent package.

Man, figuring out how to handle our SP depth is a tough one.   I’m almost leaning toward 1) Miz to bullpen 2) keep Patrick or/and Henderson in AAA if it helps get us an extra year out of either or both.  3) Keep it easy on Gasser and he stays in AAA too.  4)  Myers becomes the sixth guy if needed or stays in AAA.

I think Cortes can be a difference maker for us in the playoffs.   Start Peralta, Cortes, Woody, Quintana, Priester as our August and thru the end starting five.

Has he shown anything really this year to make us think that?

No he hasn’t.  But he also (obviously) has thrown very few innings, has been a good number 2 starter previously, is in the NL for the first time, and is playing for 8-9 figures.   That should be enough for one to at least “think” that.

The Nationals are looking to add an ace to team with Gore, certainly not looking to deal one.

He's not been near the pitcher Quintana has been in his career and he's been bad in the post-season. Why are we thinking this guy is going to be our #2 starting pticher when he comes back from missing almost the whole season.

I also do not get the logic of moving Misiorowski to the pen. I get why you didn't go back to him on regular rest coming off the ASB. Give him time... manage his innings, but he's the type of guy you start in the post-season. Moving him to BP at this point...in favorof Cortes is an odd call.

I'd slot Cortes behind Peralta, Misii, Woodruff, Priester, Henderson maybe to the pen, but you still have Myers who is adding some velo. he could have an impact. Cortes eating some innings at this point would be a bous, but the #2 starter?

So far, Miz has proven his control issues are much better. With how dominant he's been, why the h*** would you move him to the bullpen now? That would be insane to do, at this point. I suppose, he'll have a innings limit, so moving a dominant starter to the pen would be a total "Brewers" move, while still claiming they're going for a WS title.

The Brewers are focused on improving the left side of their infield, either at shortstop or third base, with an impact bat. They are among the teams who could be in play for the Diamondbacks’ Eugenio Suárez, along with the Rockies’ Ryan McMahon and even the Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado, who has a full no-trade clause. They would like an offensive upgrade at shortstop, where Joey Ortiz has struggled, and they’ve been linked to two speedy Marlins infielders, Xavier Edwards and Otto Lopez.

Lopez would be interesting.

I don’t see why Miami would sell Lopez but that would be a really nice fit for the Brewers to target. Would not be cheap though.

Yes hard to see why they'd trade Lopez at this point. A year or two down the line? Sure. But why now? And it'd coast a haul.

But if he *is* available then yeah that's a really good fit and someone the team should target.

I think we are at a point where Caleb Durbin has played well enough that 3B isn't really a need unless you think he could move to SS. Durbin is currently at 2.2 WAR after missing a month and have a rough first month or so after being called up. He is probably been playing at a near 5 WAR pace since. Ortiz has made up 1-1.5 WAR but for whatever reason baseball reference has him at -7 defensive runs saved which is nuts.

Seen/heard about a player that hasn't been mentioned mentioned on here alot involved in some trade talks.

If the Royals to sell, the player is Maikel Garcia - While i dont know what they royals would trade a 25 yr old who is putting up better than avg numbers, who knows.

Would immediately be out starting 3B, moves Calab to more of a utility role.

Names I've seen for him would be Boove or Black, and Yoho

I imagine it would take substantially more than Boeve/Black and Yoho to get Garcia

If a 3B is being discussed the idea would be Turang to SS. Durbin to 2B.  Ortiz to utility if he's not in the trade.  We don't know if the team itself is open to that move but with the reported links to Suarez with Ortiz being in the doghouse of late it seems they would be.

If they add a really good bat like Suarez then they could also use LF. Collins Durbin Suarez 3 players for 2 spots, it's not too bad of an idea for an August lineup.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Yeah nutso, laughable and a bunch of other things besides. My eyes tell me all I need to know about Ortiz' defensive chops.

Never say never, but moving Turang at this point seems pretty unlikely regardless of his past experience at SS. A popular argument against making major trade changes is upsetting the chemistry of the team. That doesn't only apply to the roster makeup, but to the positional lineup as well. Turang at SS would now have to get a feel for how the guy on both his left and his right are going to react to certain balls. A split second of uncertainty can cause issues sometimes.

If Cleveland decides to sell, what would it take to get Steven Kwan?  An outfield of Chourio, Kwan and Frelick for the next few seasons would be sweet.  I'm just not counting on Mitchell at this point.  I've seen a few sites suggest that Kwan might become available if Cleveland decides to sell.

I like Kwan a bunch, he has 2.5 years of control and has been a 4-5 WAR player. I do think he fits our philosophy perfectly. I would guess that it would have to be a pretty strong package my guess would be Pratt, Patrick/Hall/Henderson, and Wilken/Adams/Letson.

That being said Issac Collins has been as good as Kwan the past couple months.

I was just reading that the Mets are open to trading infield depth. I have always love Ronny Mauricio and think he would be a perfect target. A switch hitter who can play all IF spots and play some OF as well. He is very volatile but could be a utility guy with 20/20 (maybe 30/30) upside. I would guess they would want pitching DL Hall would be a pretty close value I feel. The Mets might be be looking for an set-up man.

I honestly think we have to start giving Collins credit for what he has done.  If he continues, LF is not an issue moving forward.

I keep seeing people wanting to add outfielders, and that just isn't our biggest weakness.  Yes, Frelick going down hurts, hopefully he makes it back in a timely manner, but I think we can plug the OF until that time.

I think moving Turang to SS at this point in the season would be a mistake.

I think getting an overpaid poorly defending SS would also be a mistake.  I don't think we realize sometimes how good we have it defensively with Ortiz.  I am banking on his bat continuing to improve.

I'm fine with letting Durbin handle 3B.

The guy I'd love to add would be someone like Willy Castro.  He can play every position (2B, 3B, SS and OF) adequately, and has a solid bat.  No clue if the Twins would entertain a trade, or what it would cost to get him.  Also no clue on the status of his current contract.  All I know is he would be a great piece to add, and can play all over the field, and can hit.

Castro is a great idea for an add.   Fits perfectly.   Otto Lopez is worth going after even if Pratt needs to be included though imo.
