When the guy you need to be a power hitting OF has a shot back, but you still have to hit him 3rd, it's not going to be consistently good enough on offense.

Centering the organization's philosophy for mlb position players on defense and speed is inevitably going to lead to the obvious weakness of struggling to score for extended periods of games when your key guys aren't carrying you.  At this point the brewers have to look at their hitting philosophy and realize it ain't cutting it at the MLB level - they could really use a hitting lab upgrade, or at minimum change their approach with the hitting work/scouting they are doing with players on the major league roster.

Others have pointed it out - tok often the Brewers lineup resembles a freshmen high school lineup going up against varsity pitching - overmatched in too many spots in the order and the pressure it puts on the better hitters to come through is unreasonable every game.

With the starting pitching injuries you would think that would be the issue. The batting is so bad right now it won't matter who is pitching. Bleh.

Welcome to Brewer Fanatic! Yeah, you'd give them a pass if the rotation was losing games but this offense... ugh.

The issue is we have just royally sucked at drafting and developing big league hitters for the better part of a decade.

Anybody we've had that's been a decent hitter was either traded for or free agent.

And this is a major problem for a small market like us.  This is going to be a long sad summer but perhaps this is necessary to clean house ( and not just the coaching staff!) and hit the reset button.

I would agree with you but look what Seitzer and Edgar are doing with a Seattle team that wasn't hitting.

If a hitting coach made a true difference they could name their price.

Yelich seemingly got old over the offseason as his typically strong OBP has cratered, as has his BABIP.

Chourio hacks at everything (.253 avg, .270 OBP), and pitchers have picked up on the fact they can get him out without throwing him strikes.

Contreras is playing everyday with a fractured finger.

No hitting coach is going to be able to turn those three’s stats around with words and extra time in  the cage.

Turang and Frelick are already squeezing every drop of offensive talent they have.

And just maybe Durbin and Ortiz aren’t going to be good hitters in the majors which would explain why they were available in trades in the first place.

He's exactly replacement level so far this season - him in SF now making alot more money is not the reason the rest of the guys on this roster aren't hitting better, too.

I don't think it was his bat that is missing.  He was a real leader.  His locker room presence was infectious and his teammates fed off of that.  I just don't see any fire with this group from the manager on down.  They are truly funereal.
