@Jopal78I think of it more than utilizing extra resources for a need. Quintana won't be back in 2026. If the can get a hitter for him, I don't see that as bad when there are options to replace him.

I’m old enough to remember when Doug Davis and then Randy Wolf served as our number two starters.   Oh how I’d have longed for having Civale or an end-of-career Quintana handling the #2 starter roles on those Brewer teams instead.

Doug Davis was way better than you think.

His 2004 and 2005 were 200+IP & sub 4 ERA/FIP. He'd basically be our #1.

That's part of the challenge - they have top prospects who are a year to 1.5 years away.  You don't want to give up too much for a guy at those positions.  A short-term stopgap would be ideal but there just aren't any.

That’s pretty much the long and short of it. Crazy to have a surplus of quality SP and no clear way to get value to address immediate needs.
