I'll be in Zebulon, NC as the Carolina Mudcats look to move to 2-0 in the 2nd half. Brewers Weekend starts today with the brewers city connect themed jersey giveaway.

I will be there, as well! Hoping for a good game.

Not sure if it's being mentioned by others before, but it seems like Seigler occasionally switch to left hand side when facing LHP lately. But at 06/11, 06/17 he still batted from right hand side, I wonder if he's still experimenting to see if he will eventually ditch switch-hitting.

The Low-A Mudcats are knotted 2-2 in this week’s home series against Columbia and RHP Travis Smith (3.07 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 6.6 K/9 in 41 IP) gets the start this afternoon. DH Eric Bitonti is now tied atop the 12-team Carolina League with 10 homers.

AA Biloxi gets a 2nd chance to clinch this week’s home series over Knoxville, this time behind RHP Brett Wichrowski, who’s coming off 2 rough starts (combined 5.2 IP, 10 R (1 ER), 9 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 4 Ks). SS Cooper Pratt has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games.

Columbia got on the board first with a lead off triple and RBI groundout in the first, but Carolina answered back bottom two when Filippo Di Turi hit a solo shot for his 9th HR of the year.

Only Bitonti and Freili Encarnacion with 10 apiece have more homers than Filippo in the Carolina League.

Jesus Made tripled home the second Carolina run here bottom of three and Luis Pena followed with an RBI single of his own to extend the Mudcats lead to 3-1.

...but it didn't stop there.

Pena stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, then Eric Bitonti walked to put runners on the corners before Jose Anderson hit a two RBI triple to make it a 5-1 advantage.

Travis Smith given the 5-1 lead allows 3 hits and gives back 2 runs. Argh. He has the stuff but can’t seem to really take off with a solid game start to finish.

Tonights starters (excluding the opener in Mashville) are all in the midst of frustrating seasons, not what most of expected or were hoping for - Wichrowski, Birchard, and T Smith have flashed but just been consistent enough. Birchard too many walks, T. Smith too hitable.  Plenty of talent there that each needs to find a way to hone in consistently. And the numbers are there showing the potential they each have, just not that next step… yet.

The High-A Timber Rattlers need a win behind RHP Ryan Birchard (4.01 ERP, 1..50 WHIP, 11.1 K/9 in 49.1 IP) tonight to even their series at West Michigan at 2 games apiece. No Blake Burke in the lineup? DH Marco Dinges has homered in 3 consecutive games.

Mudcats third triple of the game. Peña just slugged it to deep left center to score Walther (single) and Made (walk) all with 2 outs. This is refreshing to see - multiple hits and gets runners in.

Made, Peña, Anderson, DiTuri the big hitters today

Now a tough lefty pitcher in to try to get Bitonti.

7-3 game. Bitonti goes down swinging. With the injuries to Wilken and Adams, and Black rehab, EMJ struggling compared to expectations, I’m really hoping Bitonti can get on a roll to join Burke as the viable corner IF prospects.  I still see Eric’s  ceiling as one of the top 5 in the system (made, Peña, Payne top 3) with his raw power if he can just hit more and cut down the Ks.

The AAA Sounds are tied 2-2 in this week’s home series against Iowa and need to support RHP Josh Maciejewski as he makes his 1st start (16th appearance) of 2025. 3B Bobby Dalbec has a 1.051 OPS in June (64 PAs).

Dikember comes in to get the last 2 outs after Smith cannot finish the 5th inning.

Then Sanchez's 2025 season continue to be a struggle. HR on the 2nd pitch (that just stayed fair).

2 pitches later and a double smoked to left. A sac fly gets the runner to third, and then he uncorks a WP that bounced in front of the plate. 7-6 now.

And he gets an out on a generous call for a K. Then walks a batter and another wild pitch on as SB and another runner to third. But he is able to end the 6th.

Phew still with the lead. Offense will need to get a few insurance runs.

Reyes on and walks the first batter, but gets the next 3. OK he is earning my trust this month.

Eight straight Mudcats retired in a row (starting with Bitonti's K) and Pena breaks it up with a walk and a SB.

But Bitonti strikes out (3rd today) and ANderson lines out. Still clinging to a 7-6 lead.

Reyes out for another inning. Gets the first man, and then gives up a single on a 1-2 count. Let's go Anfernny.

After giving up a SB, Reyes gets the next batter with a swinging strike and the red hot Asbel Gonzalez, and first pitch pops up for Holguin at first. Phew. Still a one run lead, and on to the bottom of the 8th and as Chris Edwards said " a little insurance wouldn't hurt ". And no Chris it wouldn't hurt, it would be a welcome sight. Muddies haven't seemed to have the late game push recently. Missing that for sure.

Hodges works around a two out single and closes the deal.

Muddies Win! 7-6.

OK on to see what TRats or Shuckers can do.

TRats 1-1 in the top of the 3rd. Birchard only 1 BB in 2 innings so far.

Shuckers down 2-1, and still at bat in the bottom of the 3rd

Shuckers tie it with a 2-out RBI double to left by Pratt. Nice hitting. If he can really get hot that would be so fun to watch. Boeve up to try to get the lead.  He is scuffling a little (his walk off hit earlier this week not-withstanding). Good time to get another big hit Mike.

Wichrowski gets a grounder to 1st that he fielded well on Boeve's throw.

Then a single, but he's picked off. 2 quick outs

But he gives up a hit, then a walk, and then a grounder to Boeve, but Wichrowski can't hold on to it and it's an error, bases loaded. Then a single, 2 runs score, and the play is 3rd is close. Ayrault argues to no avail.

Wich can look great for an inning or part of an inning but just loses focus? control? comannd?

He does get out of the 5th. But it's a 4-2 deficit.

Meanwhile looks like Whitecaps get to Birchard. Lovely with 2 walks and 2 singles, and still only 2 out. It's a 2-1 Whitecaps lead over the T-Rats
