In Houston, RHP Logan Webb threw 4.2 scoreless frames as the USA built a 5-0 lead over Canada by the top of the 6th inning, with 2B Brice Turang (2-for-3, walk) and CF Pete Crow-Armstrong (2-for-4) knocking in the last 2 runs. 

Canada responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th, which included a 2-out RBI single by DH Tyler Black (1-for-4).

In the 7th, two infield singles and a passed ball with nobody out had Canada one hit away from tying the game, but RHP David Bednar retired 3 straight (pop out, K, K) to silence the threat, with Team USA ultimately holding on for the 5-3 win.

Guys like Raleigh, Harper and Bregman have really disappointed. Lots of talk prior to these games starting that Turang shouldn't be playing over Henderson but really Henderson should be playing over Bregman. Bottom of order guys Turang and PCA carrying this team.

3B Andrew Fischer (1-for-3) contributed an RBI walk as part of a 4-run first inning for Italy, who led Puerto Rico 4-2 after 2 frames.

Back-to-back RBI doubles by Fischer and JJ D’Orazio helped push Italy’s lead to 8-2 in the 4th inning.

A 4-run Puerto Rico 8th inning rally was nearly larger, but Red Sox reliever Greg Weissert retired Willi Castro and Nolan Arenado to strand 2 baserunners. He then closed out Italy’s 8-6 victory in the 9th.

Wilyer Abreu (3-run HR) and Maikel Garcia (2-run HR) led Venezuela back from an early 5-2 deficit against Japan, while Venezuela’s bullpen shut out Japan over the final 6 innings in an 8-5 upset victory.

CF Jackson Chourio went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. LHP Angel Zerpa tossed a 3-up, 3-down 7th inning for the winners.

I know a lot of people feel this way, but can baseball always be like this?

The USA-Canada game and the Japan-Venezuela one were so fun over the last two days. Every team has a clear rooting interest. It's like the best kind of spectacle, where I really don't care who wins because so many fun stories abound. 

I think I'm part venezolano for the next few days, if I had to choose. But I love the atmosphere and energy and joy and fun happening. Baseball is cool.

The easy answer here is no. If the WBC spanned 162 games and then had a best of 7 series it would feel a lot different. What really helps the atmosphere of the WBC is the short time period & single elimination nature of it. Every game in the WBC truly means something and once you get to the knock out round any team can be knocked out at any point

Happy that Fischer is having a good WBC but people are saying some insane things on fan sites about him right now.
