I’m curious who you would identify as a top of the rotation controllable starter?

I’m not saying you’re wrong to hold Mitchell in a high regard (I’m with you, I was convinced he would come into this season and either get hurt or suck because of all the injuries), but still I’m not sure any team trading significant assets to get him with 3+ years of service time and only 224 games played.

Foreseeably, if Mitchell stayed completely healthy this season and continues to be an above average bat while playing premium defense in CF, it may make sense for both Milwaukee and Mitchell to come to some sort of agreement on an extension. His injuries will limit his earning capacity between now and 2029. So perhaps he can get a guarantee  for more money than he’ll likely make in arbitration in exchange for an extra year of control or club options.

I brought up Logan Webb and Gavin Williams recently, not that either are likely to be dealt. Joe Ryan could be a guy in that realm. I dont think I would put him in a deal for Detmers or Soriano but that would be close.

Should we approach Mitch about an extension? He has 2 more Arby years left. Would a 4/24 or a 5/35 deal get it done, or build club options based on health etc….

I think we should.  I actually suggested 4/24 in the game thread earlier. No didn’t realize that he was already Arby 1 this year.  If he gets injured, that could burn us, but better than paying $3.5 million for a sub .500 OPS player like Rengifo.

at the risk of starting a flame war, I think Mitchell brings more to the table than Vaughn.  If I had a choice of spending $7m on Vaughn or Mitchell, that’s an easy choice for me.

vaughn has been a nice part-time player for us, but he’s definitely cooled off

Not sure it’s in the cards with him so close to FA but I would definitely be interested in a short term extension. Buy out a year or two of FA. Mitchell gets some guaranteed money to cover in case he gets injured.

Sell high!  You never know when the china doll will break.  I like Mitchell but everytime I see him hit the ground I think he is going to get up hurt.
