NASHVILLE – After late-inning magic in the series opener on Tuesday, Nashville used another late rally on Wednesday to secure a 3-2 win for a second straight night at First Horizon Park. Brewers no. 23-rated prospect Coleman Crow turned in a season-high 7.0 IP and earned his 23rd career quality start in the win.

The Sounds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second thanks to four straight one-out singles started by Akil Baddoo. Jonathan Ornelas followed, and Tyler Black picked up where he left off Tuesday night after delivering the walk-off winner with a RBI single to start his night on Wednesday. Ramon Rodriguez added the second straight RBI single to score Ornelas.

 

 

Blake Burke added the fifth - and what turned out to be the final - hit of the night for Nashville with a one-out single in the bottom of the third. He tried to tag up and advance to second on a fly ball off the bat of Jeferson Quero, but the Bats successfully appealed that Burke had left first base early and brought an abrupt end to the inning. He would be the last baserunner the Sounds would have until the bottom of the eighth inning as Louisivlle's Ben Wereski, Graham Ashcraft, Chase Petty, and Connor Phillips combined to retire 14 straight after Burke reached base in the third. 

 

For Crow, the right-hander faced the minimum in the first and second inning despite allowing a leadoff single to start the top of the second with a pickoff of Noelvi Marte. He stranded two more singles in the third before a one-out triple for Marte in the fourth eventually led to a run and cut the Sounds lead to one. Three more Louisville singles in the fifth helped to even the score at 2-2 before the right-hander could strand two more. He worked around a two-out double in the sixth and two-out single in the seventh to finish his night with a season-high 7.0 IP. He struck out four without a walk and helped to strand six Louisville runners on base as the game remained tied through seven. 

 

Eduardo Garcia got hit by Phillips with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to end the run of consecutive Nashville batters retired at 14. Garcia promptly swiped second and advanced to third on a fly out to right field for Brandon Lockridge. With two-outs, Phillips 1-2 offering to Brock Wilken got past PJ Higgins and to the backstop, allowing Garcia to score standing up and a 3-2 Sounds lead.

 

Garrett Stallings was the lone Nashville reliever needed as he tossed two scoreless innings behind Crow. He worked around the lone error of the night in the top of the eighth that allowed Marte to reach base for a third time. The potential tying run reached via a one-out single in the ninth before Stallings punched out Dominic Pitelli and Wilken made a leaping snag at third to rob Bats' leadoff man Carlos Jorge of a hit and secure the win.

 

The Sounds and Bats will continue their series on Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. RHP Brandon Sproat (0-1, 4,50 ERA) is scheduled to get the start for Nashville against LHP Kent Emanuel (1-1, 4.50) and Louisville.

WELCOME TO THE CROW: Coleman Crow made his 16th start (17th appearance) of the season for the Sounds, recording his seventh quality start and earning a no decision in Wednesday night's game against Louisville (7.0 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 4 K). Six-of-the-seven quality starts have come in his last eight games since July 19 vs. Norfolk and the right-hander has earned four wins in that stretch. Since rejoining the Sounds on July 4, Crow ranks second in ERA (2.45), fourth in WHIP (1.13), fifth in IP (47.2) and sixth in AVG (.221) among qualified International League pitchers. The no. 23-rated prospect has recorded 23 quality starts in his professional career since 2021. Ten of the 23 quality starts have come within the Brewers' farm system since joining Double-A Biloxi and Nashville last season. He has the third-most quality starts in the system behind Tyson Hardin and Jaron DeBerry at the top of the leaderboard with 12 each. 

 

THERE HE GOES AGAIN: Tyler Black went 1-for-3, getting credited with one of the two RBI in Wednesday night's game against the Bats, extended his on-base streak to 14 consecutive games. The 14 games is the third longest-active on-base streak on the team, and he is hitting .375 (6-for-16), two doubles, three RBI and two runs in that span. It was Black's second straight game with an RBI, including Tuesday night's two-run walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth. Black extended his hit streak to five consecutive games. 

 

RUNS MATTER MORE THAN BATS: Despite getting held to five or fewer hits for a second straight game and being doubled up in the hit column, Nashville earned a second straight 3-2 win in the late innings. The five hits Nashville had on Wednesday was the 34th time the Sounds have recorded five hits or less and the 17th now at home. The 34 games marks as the fifth-most in the International League with Norfolk at the top with 48. The team had 36 games where they put up five hits or less during the 2025 season and are now two away from tying that number with 16 games remaining this season.

Biloxi Beats Birmingham in Extra Innings

BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers (61-63, 26-33) walked off the Birmingham Barons (55-73, 29-30) for the third time this season at Keesler Federal Park on Wednesday Night. All three of Biloxi’s game winning hits against Birmingham have come off the bat of Jesús Made. Wande Torres (5.0ip, 0r, 3k) also dazzled in his Double-A debut, twirling five shutout innings out of the bullpen. That ties the longest outing by a Shuckers reliever this season.

The Shuckers strung together a pair of runs in the first after a sacrifice fly by Made and a solo homer from Josh Adamczewski, off the bat at 103 mph, going 382 feet.

The Barons collected a big inning in the third thanks to a Jorge Corona leadoff bomb, a Dylan Campbell RBI double and a Caleb Bonemer sacrifice fly to take a 3-2 lead. Birmingham brought two more runs home in the fifth on a second Corona round tripper and an RBI base knock by Caleb Bonomer.

Damon Keith cut the deficit to 5-3 with a 116 mph, 434 foot laser home run in the fifth. That tied the hardest-hit ball by a Shucker this season and represented Keith's second off the bat at 115 or more. Andrew Fischer made it a one-run game in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.

Biloxi was down to its final strike in the ninth, but Damon Keith came through with a game-tying RBI single and Made sent the Shuckers faithful home happy with the walk-off base hit in the 10^th.

Both Keith (2-for-4) and Made (2-for-4) tallied multiple hits and RBIs in the Shuckers comeback victory. That marks Made’s Southern-League high 33^rd multi-hit contest of the season.

Torres' (1-0) herculean effort was rewarded with his first win in Double-A, while Jonathan Clark collected the loss. Manuel Rodriguez (5.0ip, 4k) recorded his 11^th consecutive quality start as well.

The Shuckers aim to secure at least a series split on Thursday night when they battle the Barons Keesler Federal Park. Bishop Letson (6-6, 5.16) toes the bump for Biloxi while Riley Gowens (0-1, 2.25) gets the start for Birmingham. The Shuckers start game three-of-six in their series at 6:35 p.m. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. with the On-Deck Show on the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network and The Hype 100.9.

Mercedes Shines in Rattlers Debut
Wisconsin hangs on for 4-3 win at Beloit

BELOIT, WI – Miqueas Mercedes started Wednesday’s game against the Beloit Sky Carp to make his Wisconsin Timber Rattlers debut.  His first Midwest League game was memorable for the right-hander as he tossed 5-2/3 scoreless innings to earn the win as the Rattlers held on for a 4-3 victory at ABC Supply Stadium. 

Luis Castillo put the Timber Rattlers (67-56 overall, 33-28 second half) up 1-0 with a two-out, RBI single in the top of the first.  Sawyer Strosnider made it 2-0 with an RBI grounder in the second inning.

Both starting pitchers kept the score right there.  Brayan Mendoza only allowed three hits – and none after the second inning – as he went six innings and struck out seven for the Sky Carp.  Mercedes walked four, struck out four, and allowed three hits over his 5-2/3 shutout inning.  Mercedes did need some assistance to keep the zeros in his run column.

Beloit chased Mercedes from the game with a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth.  He retired the first two batters he faced before allowing a single and a walk to end his night. Yerlin Rodriguez threw a wild pitch and issued a walk to load the bases before getting the final out of the sixth to protect the 2-0 advantage. Rodriguez followed that up with a perfect bottom of the seventh.

Eric Bitonti hit a towering home run to right to start the Wisconsin eighth inning.  The homer was the twenty-fifth of the season for the Timber Rattlers single-season home run record holder.  Only three players in the history of Professional Baseball in Appleton have hit more homers in a season:  Daryl Boston hit 26 with the 1972 Appleton Foxes, Carlos Pascual had 27 with the 1958 Fox Cities Foxes, and Pat Seerey had 31 with the 1941 Appleton Papermakers.

Later in the eighth, Luiyin Alastre made the score 4-0 with a sacrifice fly.  That turned out to be a very important run.

Rodriguez walked the lead-off batter in the bottom of the eighth inning but got Carter Johnson to send a grounder to Tayden Hall at first.  Hall threw to second for the force play but Juan Ortuño’s return throw to Rodriguez to complete to double play could not be handled.  Victor Ortega followed with a double.  Then, Chase Jaworsky hit 1-2 pitch from Rodriguez to right for a three-run homer to cut Wisconsin’s lead to one run.

Michael Fowler entered the game from the Wisconsin bullpen and got the final two outs of the eighth.  In the ninth, he issued a two-out walk before getting a strikeout to close out the game and earn his fifth save of the season. 

The Timber Rattlers have won three consecutive games. 

Game three of the series is Thursday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Jayden Dubanewicz (3-5, 5.13) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Nate Payne (5-7, 3.89) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:05pm.  Newstalk 93.9 WOSH and internet audio has the radio broadcast starting with the Community Blood Center Pregame Show at 5:45pm.  Bally Sports Live will have the game on their app, too.

Yeah, from All Star in 2023 (great first half) to a minor league contract as a AAAA player with the Twins in January 2026 (63 games in minors, 19 in majors), released in late July, spent a little time in the Mexican League (just 3 games), then signed a new minor league deal with the Reds on September 1.
