If we can get a few runs in on Z early, and a few walks, he will probably explode again. Small strike zones tend to distrupt him for some reason.

I just have a really bad feeling about this one. Zambrano has the Brewers by the balls. I hope I'm wrong, but I am on the record as saying it doesn't look good.

Offense: Make Zambrano work. In his last outing against the brewers he had his best stuff working but the ended with a high pitch count due to patience by the brewer batters. The cub's pen is weak so the more pitches Zambrano throws early the better.

 

Pitching/Defense: Fun stat of the day: The Brewer's have the second best Defensive efficiency in the league at 0.7121 behind only the marlins. This is one of those stats that converges quicker since the crew have already faced 679 balls in play. That's still not a huge sample but it appears that upgrades in the defense are paying off. Cappy needs to avoid walking people today and let the defense work for him. The cubs have a real soft part of the lineup with the middle infielders, catcher, and Hollandsworth if he is playing in left. You can't walk these guys because Lee/Ramirez/Burnitz can still do damage.

 

Also, fewer outs on the base paths than the last cub series would be nice.

I doubt Lee will be beaned, but the media will probably make a big deal out his slide during pre game and when he's up to bat.

Let's jump on that raving lunatic. You see, Sosa left and people said there wasn't "that guy" to dislike anymore. Zambrano is now that guy and my hatred has never wavered.

edit: It's interesting that we, Stl, Pit, and Chi all are basically the same home and away, while Hou and Cin are dramatically different. Is there some sort of conclusion that can be drawn from that? Or will those revert closer to .500 as the season goes on?

 

What I see is that Stl is good, Pit is bad, and Cubs and Brewers are roughly .500 teams. Hou and Cin, on the other hand, are apparently not very good outside their home park. This actually seems like a fairly accurate summary of the state of things to me.

Last week many people thought the Brewers were headed for the worst record in the NL. A 4 game winning streak and we're close to .500 and this week we're great. Any more wins and we'll be declared NL Central division champions by many of the same who were ready to jump off the ledge last week. I just like think it's best to enjoy the games and realize that water always finds it's level.

I wasn't making any predictions, just looking at the home-road splits. That's all. It's the beginning of May, I know.

Cappy needs to throw strikes tonight. none of this walking 4-5 guys in the first 3 innings. Then we need to get to the Crazy Z right away.

The cub's pen is weak so the more pitches Zambrano throws early the better.

 

And getting to the pen early today would also start chipping away at that bullpen early for the series as a whole. If the Crew loses today it's understandable, but let's get the pen in there for 3-4 innings!
