Braun has an .809 OPS vs righties. He has a .720 OPS from innings 6-9. My guess is its just from facing good righty RP's all of the time and never facing lefties late in the game.

There were two games in June, one just before the no-hitter when Jenkins blasted a 3 run shot that salvaged the final game of that very, very, frustrating series in Texas, then the win against the Tigers on Hall's two run shot. Those two late wins did propel them into a nice stretch.

 

Well, the offensive heroes last night were Hall and Jenkins. Love em or hate em, those two guys usually do something when enough is enough. I had that feeling that either would be the guy to step up last night.

Jenkins has really had some important hits for the Brewers this year. I hope this works to finally dispel the "only hits them when it's irrelevant" argument that pops up here from time to time.

 

Last night was without doubt the most entertaining Brewer game of the year, from my perspective. It was an electric playoff atmosphere, had a bunch of storylines (Glavine, the Cubs winning, Prince getting hit) and ended with a bang.

 

I love baseball.

Even if the Brewers had lost last night, I think it would've been good for the Crew. I thought there was more intensity and focus last night. If they can maintain that level of drive they could "right the ship."

 

The only weird thing about last night, and I mean weird, was Braun late in the game. I never thought I see him swing so ugly at pitches a foot outta the strike zone. I think maybe the pressure got to him for the first time this year. Otherwise, he been golden.

Maybe you're right, Ennder. He just looks like a different hitter when I watch his plate appearances late in the game, particularly in pressure situations. Much less plate discipline. I don't have any doubt that he'll make adjustments and this problem (to whatever extent it exists) will disappear.

yeah I don't disagree. Last night his AB against Sosa was not the Braun we all know and love. He swung at two pitches that Jenkins might have taken and ended up with a K where any ball in play would have won the game for us.

I don't think it's the kind of game that will be used as a launching pad. Ramirez shot to beat the Brewers was their turning point. But I see last night's game as just surviving. In fact, even though they won I'm sure there's a certain amount of frustration in failing so many times to get the job done earlier.

All I know is that is what the most fun I had watching the team in a while. It was an awesome game, Jenkins starting two would-be game ending rallies, and then just becoming at one with the game-ending rally. Seems like Ned pushed the right buttons all night in regards to the pitchers, it was just a good game.

 

As far as turning points go, I'm not a huge believer in the idea of momentum in baseball, but I do believe that the Brewers are due to go on a hot streak - whether an unexciting blowout win or a dramatic nailbiter like last night is the start is just a coincidence, I think.

While it seemed that way, I thought he made one huge mistake that cost them one run and could have cost them the game. With a 1-0 lead and one out in the 6th inning, David Wright batting with a runner on third and the third time throught the order for Suppan, he played the infield up. I think at that point of the game with the heart of the order batting your priority has to be preventing the big inning. Wright ended up singling, on a routine grounder that snuck through. He would have been out with the infield back. Wright ended up scoring that inning, and except for the slow footed Delgado and a nice relay from Graffy, more runs could have scored that inning.

As good as last night's win was, it means nothing if they can't back it up with a win tonight. The Brewers need to start winning some series, and maybe pick up a sweep or two.

It's just impossible to try and keep track of the results of thousands of ABs, especially when we have a tendency to remember the failures more than the successes. It probably makes fans of every team convinced that their team should score more runs.

 

As for the game, it was great to watch but it's only one game. With the spent bullpen and Vargas pitching tonight, there's a good chance of seeing Dessens tonight.

I, for one, am definitely afraid of Dessens. However, is it possible he could be the savior of the tired bullpen? If Vargas is able to go six tonight and Dessens can step in and eat a couple of innings, that would be a step in the right direction for him. He apparently looked good in AAA, but that's an entirely different world. Here's hoping he can pull it out.
