Doug never stands in the way of a minor league vet having a better chance at the bigs. He was a ways down the list as a callup (I'd think 5th or lower) goes, so good luck to him.

So we just traded a guy that has a decent chance to pitch in the bigs for some cash? I realize he was probabley out of options soon, but we couldn't get even some buy low type talent?

It sounds bad on the surface, but this is really a sign of progress that we are no longer collecting as many of these marginal players as possible to see if one really shines. The cash can logically be turned into something more exciting like paying for some of this year's DFA crop.
