Steroid investigation- Latest: Jay Gibbons in trouble

Wade Wilson just admitted to getting HGH while he was working as an assistant coach for the Bears just a few days ago. That's gotten very little press, despite the fact it's pretty obvious that he was getting it for players.

So, what's going to happen when inevitably one of our own turned out to be on 'roids?

Come on...with the money in professional sports one would have to be quite naive to think that fewer than 50% of professional athletes use performance enhancers....it's a product of a small margin of different between fame and fortune, and failure. It's pervasive.

We're in the HGH and designer roid world right now....no test for this stuff. It's pervasive.

There is massive steroid and HGH use in the NFL, especially HGH.

 

HGH is the lifeblood of the NFL....

Does anyone have that crazy photo of Gonzo flexing in his sterioid days ? it is a lot scarier than the abouve photo.

You guys do realize that it's possible to get huge without steroids right? Not to mention that steroids in and of themself don't make you huge, you need to workout too (there are pitchers that are juicing and they don't look like bodybuilders) To me, the most damning evidence is not the size of a guy's muscles but his jump in power numbers. So instead of pics of a guy's biceps being the only piece of the puzzle, you need to use his stats as well. Brady Anderson wasn't overly huge but I bet my 401K he juiced as did Bret Boone (although his biggest sin is having frosted hair). Gonzo is a great guy by all accounts but his power numbers tell more than that pic.

 

Gozno - Guy never hit more than 15 HRs in a year or slugged more than .473 then plays one year in Detroit where he hits 23 hrs. Next year at AZ, 26 HR, next year 31. And the following year 57 HR at age 33. He never hit more than 28 after that.

 

Anderson - never hit more than 21 HRs in a year then hit 50 at age 32. Never hit more than 24 after that.

 

Makes me wonder about Bill Hall from time to time.

 

It's like theses guys cycled on for a year, got their contract, and stopped or got too old for it to matter anymore.

Jay Gibbons is the latest name, and it sounds like they've got pretty good info on him. 6 shipments of HGH, 2 of testosterone, and 2 of HCG were all received by Gibbons between 2003 and 2005 (and yes, 2003 was the year MLB 'banned' steroids).

Just a suggestion, but given how quickly this is turning into a roll-call list of MLB players, perhaps changing the thread title to be more descriptive would be useful.

While not currently, Turnbow has used them in the past. Infact, he was the first major leauge player to ever test positive for a banned substance

Gibbons' name coming up isn't all that surprising, since it was widely speculated that he was named in the Jason Grimsley affadavit. Certainly makes his long injury history a little more interesting, to say the least.
