Insects attack at Jacobs Field

bug spray only keeps em off you they still circle around you like there aint no tomorrow

Heck, the bug spray couldn't even keep them off the players. I've never seen anything like that, though the last time there was a bug-in, it was in the AL Central, too, wasn't it? Am I recalling correctly that it was @ CWS? Or was it Cleveland then, too?

I thought that was at Comerica where the bullpen made a fire to thwart the bugs. I remember some kid pulled his turtle neck over his face and was swatting fiercely at them.

I find this kind of funny, from mlb.com

The Yankees sprayed themselves down before the start of the frame, using the repellant to counteract the bugs. The spray seemed about as effective as the New York hitters were against Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona.

This exact same thing happened at County Stadium during a Packer exhibition game against the Giants when I was a kid. It had to have been the mid-to-late '80's. Fortunately it was just before halftime. The upper deck of the first-base side was virtually vacated during the insect attack. By the beginning of the second half the insects were gone. Was anybody else there for that game?

Yes! We were in the bleachers at this game. I remember the bugs started raining down on us from the lights. We used our seat cushions to stop them from hitting us in the head.

I really like how some people are acting like the bugs somehow gave the Indians an advantage. Both teams had to play through it, no? The Yankees have a payroll that is $134M higher than the Indians, but the gnats (who affected both teams) are the real injustice...

Poor, poor Yankees.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Yost was managing this game? By the end of the frame, Hart would be playing second, Estrada would be pitching to Sheets.....

Sorry. Couldn't help myself.
